“Oh Wow”: A UW Arboretum Fall Engagement Session
Two words, said at the exact same time. That’s the message we got after delivering this UW Arboretum fall engagement session gallery. Nick and his fiancée opened the photos together, landed on the same image, and both said “oh wow” without missing a beat. When that happens, you know you got it right.
The Kind of Frame That Earns an “Oh Wow”
“Attached is our favorite image. When reviewing our gallery for the first time, Nick and I both said ‘oh wow’ at the same time.” That message stopped us in our tracks. Not because we were surprised by the image (we knew it was a good one the second we pressed the shutter), but because their reaction confirmed something we always chase: a photo that makes you feel what the moment actually felt like, not just what it looked like.
The UW Arboretum in late fall is something else. The tall grasses go golden, the trees hold on to just enough color, and that low autumn light comes in sideways and wraps around everything. We pulled wide on this shot to let the landscape do half the work. The river, the wild brush, the warm tones everywhere you look. It’s the kind of setting where two people can just walk and be themselves, and the photos practically make themselves.
If you’re considering an autumn couples session at the Arboretum, timing matters. Late October through mid-November gives you peak color and that golden hour light that sits low and soft. We’ve shot here across every season, and fall is when the Arboretum truly shows off. You can see more of our work on our couples photography portfolio.
When is the best time of year for engagement photos at UW Arboretum?
Late October through mid-November is our favorite window. The foliage is at peak color, the grasses turn golden, and the low autumn sun creates beautiful, warm light. We recommend booking a session about 90 minutes before sunset to make the most of it.
How do we book an engagement session with Twig & Olive?
Just reach out through our contact page and tell us a little about you two, your favorite spots, and when you’re thinking. We’ll help you pick the right location and time of day for the light.
