Winter Light and Wedding Season Beers: Token Creek Engagement Photography
These two showed up to their Token Creek engagement photography session with a six-pack of Wedding Season beer and zero hesitation about standing in a snowy field. That told us everything we needed to know. We met them at Token Creek Park in DeForest on a cold winter evening. From the first frame, they were completely themselves.
The Kind of Couple That Makes Our Job Easy
There’s a difference between couples who pose and couples who just exist together in front of the camera. This pair fell squarely into the second camp. They laughed constantly. They whispered things to each other we couldn’t hear. At one point they cracked open those Wedding Season cans for a toast right there in the snow. We pulled in tight for that moment because it was so genuinely them.
Token Creek in winter is quieter than most people expect. The snow smooths everything out. The trees go bare, and the light gets this soft, silver quality that we love working with. We shot wide across the open fields to let the landscape breathe, then moved into the tree line where branches framed them naturally. If you’re considering a couples session here, winter is genuinely underrated.
One of our favorite frames came near the end. The two of them stood in front of a triangle arch in the middle of the field, snow all around, almost kissing. Then he picked her up and she threw her head back laughing. That shift from quiet to playful is something we live for in DeForest engagement photos. It’s the kind of energy that makes a gallery feel alive.
Is Token Creek Park a good spot for winter engagement photos?
It really is. The open fields look stunning under snow, and the bare trees add texture without competing with you. Winter light here tends to be soft and even, which is ideal for portraits. We recommend timing your session about an hour before sunset for the warmest tones.
