Fresh Air and First Photos: A June Outdoor Newborn Session
Late June light in Wisconsin has this quality we can’t get enough of. It’s warm, golden, and it stretches out for hours. When this family reached out about a June outdoor newborn session at Token Creek Park, we knew the timing would be perfect.
Wildflowers, Golden Hour, and a Very Tiny Star
Token Creek is one of those spots that surprises people. It’s tucked just outside DeForest, but the wildflower fields and open meadows make it feel miles from anything. Purple clover, yellow blooms, tall grass catching the breeze. We set up right in the middle of it, and the whole scene just worked.
This is the kind of session where we keep things simple on purpose. No heavy posing, no complicated setups. A wicker basket, a soft wrap, and the natural world doing most of the heavy lifting. The baby slept through almost everything, which gave us the freedom to work slowly and get close. That calm energy is honestly when we do our best work.
One thing we love about outdoor baby photos is the way natural light wraps around everything. Studio sessions give us control, but out here the light is alive. It shifts, it warms, and every few minutes the whole palette changes. We timed this session for golden hour, and it paid off in every frame.
The sage and mint tones against all that purple clover? A photographer’s dream. Those little details, the bear bonnet, the coordinated wraps, made every setup feel intentional without looking overdone. If you’re considering an outdoor newborn session in the DeForest area, Token Creek is a spot worth knowing about. There’s room to spread out, the light is gorgeous through midsummer, and it never feels crowded.
Sessions like this remind us why we shoot outdoors whenever we can. The world adds something a backdrop never could. If you’re looking for something similar, take a look at our newborn and maternity photography page to see more of what we do.
When is the best time for an outdoor newborn session at Token Creek Park?
Late spring through midsummer is ideal. The wildflowers peak in June and July, and the long evenings give us beautiful golden hour light. We recommend scheduling about 90 minutes before sunset for the softest, warmest tones.
