Erika & Patrick’s Summer Wedding at The Swan Barn Door
Erika and Patrick had the kind of energy that made every single frame feel easy. From the moment we arrived at their cozy cabin in the Dells, they were laughing, relaxed, and completely present with each other. Their Swan Barn Door wedding gave us everything: a sun-dappled forest ceremony, golden hour on the bluffs, and a warm barn reception glowing with string lights and good company. This is the kind of day we love to photograph.
Cabin Mornings and a First Look in the Pines
Getting ready happened at Sondra’s Cottage Point Resort. Rich burgundy walls and warm cedar sliding barn doors gave us a gorgeous backdrop before we even stepped outside. Erika’s lace gown hung against that deep red wall, and the contrast was perfect. Her girls were piled on the cabin stairs laughing. Those candid moments are some of our favorites from the whole gallery.
Patrick got ready on the lodge porch, adjusting his bow tie under heavy timber beams. Golden afternoon light poured through the windows. His mom pinned his boutonniere, and there was this quiet tenderness between them that we pulled in close to capture. Then came the first look near a red barn on the property. Erika walked up behind him, and the grin on Patrick’s face when he turned around told us everything about these two.
Forest Ceremony Under the Trees
Their ceremony took place in a wooded clearing surrounded by tall trees. Light filtered through the canopy, and honestly, it was a photographer’s dream. Sunlight hit the rustic wooden arch draped in blush roses, ferns, and flowing fabric. It practically glowed. Sarah Harrison from Koru Ceremonies led the service, and the whole thing felt intimate even with a full guest list.
Erika came down the aisle flanked by her parents, beaming. One of our favorite frames is the moment right after they were pronounced married. Erika threw her arms up and the whole crowd erupted. We got both the joy and the chaos in that frame.
If you’re considering a Swan Barn Door wedding, that forest ceremony site is something special. Trees create a natural cathedral. During summer, the green canopy gives you soft, even light that photographs beautifully from every angle. It’s the kind of setting that doesn’t need much decoration because nature already did the work.
Wedding Party Portraits and the Bluffs
After the ceremony, the wedding party brought the energy. Everyone piled in around Erika and Patrick while they pressed their foreheads together, and genuine laughter filled every frame. Bridesmaids in royal blue held blush and white bouquets. Groomsmen lined up in front of weathered white barn doors that added incredible texture. These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work.
From there, we headed to the bluffs overlooking the Wisconsin River. Sandstone ledges framed by pine trees gave us portraits with real depth. Golden light was starting to warm up. Every time we repositioned, the landscape offered something new. One shot through the pine branches, with the couple kissing on the rock ledge, became the hero image from this gallery.
Inside the Barn
When the sun went down, the barn came alive. Massive exposed timber beams stretched overhead. String lights and dried floral chandeliers hung from the ceiling, filling the space with a warm amber glow. Round tables with white linens and lantern centerpieces kept the feel elegant but unfussy. Place cards with floral illustrations sat in neat rows. A simple white cake topped with blush roses anchored the dessert table. We always look forward to shooting inside this barn.
That shift from outdoor forest ceremony to warm barn reception is something we live for. Erika and Patrick’s first dance under the string lights had this soft, golden quality. We shot it from two angles to capture both the closeness and the setting. Later in the night, they cut loose on the dance floor. Patrick spun Erika out with this huge grin, and the room was right there with them. Those late-night moments gave us some of our favorite Swan Barn Door wedding photos from the entire day.
This beautiful day was made possible by an incredible team of vendors:
What are the best photo locations at The Swan Barn Door?
The property is full of variety. Filtered light fills the wooded ceremony site, and weathered white barn doors on the grounds make a great textured backdrop for portraits. For something more dramatic, nearby sandstone bluffs above the Wisconsin River provide sweeping views. Golden hour up there is stunning. As a Wisconsin wedding photographer, we love the mix of forest, rustic textures, and river bluffs this venue offers.
What makes The Swan Barn Door a great venue for a rustic wedding?
Massive exposed timber beams, string lights, and dried floral chandeliers create a warm ambient glow without any extra work. The outdoor ceremony space in the woods feels completely different from the reception inside the barn. Your day has natural variety built in. If you want rustic elegance without it feeling overdone, this venue delivers.
