Abbey & Steve’s Vintage Fall Celebration: Carrollton Hotel Wedding Photos

Abbey’s lace sleeves. Steve’s navy suit with that burgundy tie. King proteas mixed with dusty mauve roses. From the very first detail shots, this day had a richness we couldn’t stop photographing. These Carrollton Hotel wedding photos tell the story of a couple who poured thought into every texture and color, then let the rest unfold with joy you can’t plan for.

Details That Set the Tone

Before anyone walked down an aisle, we spent time with the pieces that told Abbey and Steve’s story. Brown leather shoes paired with a burgundy bow tie. A floral invitation suite laid against mossy stone. Sparkly pointed-toe flats next to dark greenery. And that dress, hung in the doorway of a weathered white shed with evergreens towering behind it. That single frame felt like a painting. It set the mood for everything that followed.

Inside, the energy was completely different. Abbey’s bridesmaids showed up in matching pink robes with personalized gray tees underneath. The laughter in that room was nonstop. One of our favorite quiet moments came when Abbey stood with her mom and her sister, heads bowed together, holding the perfume bottle like something sacred. Those in-between moments are where real emotion lives. We always make sure to be ready for them.

A St. Lawrence Church Ceremony with Real Weight

The ceremony at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll had this warm, golden glow from pendant lights and stained glass. It’s a gorgeous space with arched ceilings and classic wooden pews. We shot wide from the back to capture the full scope of it. Every seat was filled. Then we pulled in tight for the recessional, catching Steve and Abbey mid-kiss as guests erupted around them. A flower girl with a leaf crown sat nearby, completely in her own world. That contrast is the kind of thing we live for.

Outside the church, a vintage black Chevrolet waited at the curb. The whole wedding party gathered on the front steps while Steve and Abbey climbed into the back seat. If you’re considering a St. Lawrence Church wedding, know this: the exterior photographs beautifully. A classic car in the foreground and Iowa sky overhead make it even better.

Golden Hour on a Rural Iowa Farm

After the ceremony, the wedding party headed to a nearby farm for portraits. Golden hour in rural Iowa is something else entirely. The light was warm and hazy, filtering through the tree line, catching the tops of a weathered fence. Abbey’s lace back detail practically glowed in it. Steve kept reaching for her hand. Honestly, those candid in-between moments gave us some of the strongest images from the whole day.

The bridal party brought serious energy, too. Groomsmen in navy suits tackled each other for a photo. Bridesmaids in soft blush dresses laughed so hard they nearly dropped their bouquets off a wooden bridge. The floral work from Shelly Sarver Designs deserves its own paragraph. King proteas, dusty roses, burgundy dahlias, blue thistle, and trailing greenery. Every bouquet was a piece of art. The color palette paired perfectly with the warm fall landscape around us. This is the kind of rural fall wedding photography that reminds us why we love traveling to shoot.

The Carrollton Hotel Reception

Walking into the Carrollton Hotel ballroom felt like stepping into a different world. Tall floral centerpieces on gold risers. White chair covers with champagne sashes. A tiered cake adorned with orchids and roses. Every surface had been considered. Chandeliers cast warm light across the stone accent wall, and we used that ambient glow to shoot the room without adding flash. The result is images that feel as elegant as the space itself.

Then The White Keys took the stage, and everything shifted. The dance floor filled up fast and stayed that way. Friends waving drinks in the air. A guest throwing her arms wide. The groom holding a toddler while grinning at his bride. That shift from polished ceremony to late-night party energy is something we live for. Abbey and Steve danced together near the end of the night, surrounded by everyone they love. The chandeliers above them glowed amber. It was the perfect closing frame for a day that delivered from start to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions about Carrollton Hotel Weddings

What makes the Carrollton Hotel a great venue for wedding receptions?

The ballroom at the Carrollton Hotel has a refined, polished feel with stone accent walls, elegant chandeliers, and warm ambient lighting. It photographs beautifully without any extra work, and the neutral palette means it adapts to just about any color scheme or style. The on-site catering team also makes logistics much simpler for couples planning from out of town.

Can you photograph a wedding at two different locations in Carroll, Iowa?

Absolutely. Many Carroll weddings split between a church ceremony and a separate reception venue, and we build timelines that account for travel and portrait time in between. St. Lawrence Church and the Carrollton Hotel are close enough that we can fit in golden hour portraits on a nearby farm property without feeling rushed. The key is planning ahead, and we help with that from the start.
