Krissy & Dave: A Floral Dress and a Golden Rooftop at The Tinsmith

Krissy walked out in a gown with soft floral watercolors painted right into the fabric. We knew immediately this was not going to be a typical wedding day. She and Dave brought a relaxed, confident energy to every moment at The Tinsmith Madison Wisconsin. From a greenhouse getting-ready session to a rooftop portrait sequence, they gave us some of the best golden-hour frames we’ve shot all year. Their style was bold without being fussy. Their people were all in. The venue matched them perfectly.

Getting Ready in the Greenhouse

The Tinsmith’s glass-walled Alley space is one of our favorite spots to start a wedding day. Tall tropical plants, steel-frame windows, and soft natural light from every angle. It feels like a botanical loft. It photographs beautifully without any extra styling. Krissy’s bridesmaids gathered there in matching purple robes, holding up the pastel dresses on their hangers for a quick admiration moment before the real chaos kicked in.

Then came the dress. Subtle watercolor florals in teal, pink, and lavender on an off-the-shoulder silhouette. It hung from a custom “Krissy” wire hanger next to Atmospheric Floral’s copper ceremony arch. The details alone could fill a gallery. A sapphire ring in a wooden box. Crystal earrings nestled in succulents. Wedge sandals lined up beside Dave’s brown leather shoes. Every piece told us something about who these two are.

Meanwhile, Dave and his groomsmen kept things low-key in the open industrial space. They tied floral ties and adjusted suspenders under exposed ductwork and big leafy plants. That contrast between the two rooms gave us a natural story arc before anyone even said “I do.”

The Ceremony Under the Arched Ceiling

If you’re considering The Tinsmith for your ceremony, picture this: wide hardwood floors, white walls, a soaring arched truss ceiling, and industrial pendant lights casting a warm glow. That’s the main hall. Krissy and Dave set a copper arch with lush florals at the front. Guests sat on white chairs lining both sides of the aisle. Jack Reed officiated, and the energy in that room was tangible.

Dave stood at the altar looking equal parts nervous and happy. The second Krissy appeared at the end of the aisle, his face said everything. We shot wide to capture the scale of that ceiling and the warmth of the crowd. Then we pulled in tight for the vows and the kiss. One of our favorite frames from the whole day is the black-and-white moment right after. Guests erupting. Arms raised. Krissy and Dave walking back up the aisle like they just won something. Because honestly, they did. That burst of joy is what we live for behind the camera.

Urban Portraits and a Rooftop at Golden Hour

After the ceremony, we took the wedding party outside for quick group shots. The Tinsmith’s corrugated metal walls and downtown Madison streetscape made a great backdrop. Black and white felt right for those. Loose and fun, with bouquets in the air and genuine laughter on every face. From there, it was just Krissy and Dave for couple portraits.

The Tinsmith’s location gives you so much variety within a few blocks. Corrugated steel siding. Glass storefronts. Modern architecture near the convention center. Tree-lined sidewalks with summer flowers spilling over. Krissy’s floral dress popped against every surface. Dave’s cream linen suit caught the warm light in a way that made our job easy.

Then we made it to the rooftop. Wide open concrete, the Madison skyline stretching out behind them, and that perfect golden-hour glow. Those panoramic frames are some of the strongest in the gallery. A kiss under a concrete overhang with sun flare pouring through the gap? That’s a frame that stays with you. This is the kind of Tinsmith Madison WI wedding photography we get excited about.

A Reception Worth Staying For

Back inside, the reception space was ready. Sage green table numbers, white linens, candles, and simple floral centerpieces. Blue Plate Catering had the bar and food handled. Neat-O’s Bake Shoppe brought a clean three-tier white cake on a rustic wooden board. The details were thoughtful but never overdone. That’s exactly how Krissy and Dave approached every part of their day.

Their first dance was anything but stiff. Dave lifted Krissy, spun her, dipped her. The two of them laughed through every second of it. The arched bar mirrors and warm pendant lights gave us a moody, cinematic backdrop. Cake cutting brought even more laughter (and a little frosting). Once Kuhl Entertainment opened up the dance floor, it never slowed down.

Guests circled Krissy and Dave, arms waving, singing along. That shift from polished ceremony to late-night party energy is something we live for. If you’re planning a wedding at The Tinsmith, know that the space handles both beautifully. To see more of our work across Madison and beyond, check out our wedding photography portfolio.

Frequently Asked Questions about The Tinsmith Madison Wisconsin Weddings

What makes The Tinsmith a great venue for wedding photos?

It’s the mix of industrial character and natural light. Large windows flood the main hall and greenhouse Alley with soft, even light all day. Different spaces like the ceremony hall, the glass atrium, and the surrounding urban backdrops give you real variety without leaving the block. Add rooftop access for sunset portraits, and you have a complete gallery in one location.

Can The Tinsmith host both a ceremony and reception?

Yes. The main hall works beautifully for ceremonies with its arched truss ceiling, hardwood floors, and white walls. After a quick flip, the same space transforms into a reception with room for dining, dancing, and a full bar. The adjoining lounge areas keep the flow seamless, which keeps the energy up all evening.
