Pure and Simple: An In-Studio Winter Newborn Session
Tiny fingers, soft wraps, and the kind of quiet that only comes in those first few weeks. This in-studio winter newborn session at our Garver Feed Mill space reminded us why we fell in love with this work.
Keeping It Clean and Classic
We went simple for this one. Earth tones, wicker baskets, a few dried leaves for texture. No elaborate sets, no fussy backdrops. Just a sleeping baby and soft, controlled light. Our studio inside Garver Feed Mill gives us full control over temperature and lighting. For newborns, that matters more than anything.
We have a thing for the detail shots. Curled toes. Tiny hands barely the size of a walnut. The way a baby settles deeper into a wrap when the room is warm enough. Those are the frames that stop parents in their tracks six months later. We pulled in close for several of these, and the tenderness just speaks for itself.
Then there’s the family frame. Mom and Dad leaning in, looking at this brand new person they made. That moment is never posed. It just happens, and our job is to be ready. These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work.
If you’re expecting and thinking about newborn portraits in Madison, we’d love to talk through what a session looks like. The studio is stocked with wraps, props, and everything we need. You just show up, hand us the baby, and relax.
When should I book a newborn session at your Garver Feed Mill studio?
We recommend booking during your second or third trimester. That way we can reserve a date within the first two weeks after your due date. Babies are sleepiest in those early days, which makes the session smoother for everyone.
What should I bring to a newborn studio session?
Not much. We keep our studio stocked with wraps, baskets, props, and blankets in neutral tones. Just bring the baby, a feeding supply, and a change of clothes for yourself in case you’d like to hop in a few family frames.
