New Baby, New Favorites: A July Studio Newborn Session
Tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, and the kind of quiet that only exists when a brand-new baby is in the room. This July studio newborn session at our Garver Feed Mill space reminded us why we fell in love with this work in the first place. Everything about the morning was unhurried, and that energy carried straight into the images.
Soft Light, Simple Setup
We kept everything pared back for this one. Neutral wraps, natural textures, and soft studio light that we shaped exactly the way we wanted it. That’s the advantage of working in a controlled environment. No chasing the sun, no competing with wind. Just a warm, quiet room where baby sets the pace.
Mom stepped into the frame and everything shifted. The tenderness was immediate, the kind of moment we pull in close for because no wide shot could hold it. We always encourage parents to be part of newborn sessions. Posed images are lovely, but the ones where a parent is completely present with their baby? Those are the frames that stop people mid-scroll years from now.
Our studio inside Garver Feed Mill was designed with newborns in mind. The temperature stays warm, the lighting is dialed in before the family even walks through the door, and we’ve got everything on hand so nobody has to stress about forgetting a thing. If you’re considering newborn photography in Madison, WI, this is exactly the kind of experience we build for every family.
The details are what get us every time. Tiny toes curled tight, the way a baby melts into a wrap, a yawn mid-transition that you can’t plan for and can’t replicate. We shot tight on those moments because they disappear fast. Weeks from now this little one will look completely different, and these images will be the proof of just how small they started.
By the end of the session, baby was still sound asleep and we had more than enough to build a gallery this family is going to love. That calm, unhurried rhythm is something we protect fiercely during every newborn studio session. Rushed doesn’t belong here.
What makes the Garver Feed Mill studio a good space for newborn photography?
Our studio is temperature-controlled, fully stocked with wraps and props, and set up so we can shape the light exactly how we want it. That means baby stays comfortable and the session moves at their pace, not ours. It’s a calm, purpose-built space designed for exactly this kind of work.
When should I book a newborn session with Twig & Olive?
We recommend booking during your second or third trimester so we can reserve your spot. Sessions are typically scheduled within the first two weeks after baby arrives. Reach out to us here and we’ll get you on the calendar.
