Karlyn & Dylan’s October Glamour: A Pfister Hotel Wedding

Karlyn and Dylan brought black-tie energy and genuine warmth to one of Milwaukee’s most iconic buildings. From the moment we walked into The Pfister Hotel that October morning, the light in the suites was soft and golden. Every detail was impeccable. And the two of them were completely at ease. As a Pfister Hotel wedding photographer, you learn quickly that this place does a lot of the heavy lifting. Victorian ceilings, chandeliers the size of small cars, the Imperial Ballroom dripping with character. But what made this day stand out wasn’t just the venue. It was how naturally Karlyn and Dylan fit inside it.

Getting Ready at The Pfister

The Pfister’s suites are a gift for getting-ready moments. Tall windows throw soft, directional light across everything. The elegant bones of the rooms mean your backgrounds are already working for you. Karlyn’s gown hung against an ivory door. Stationery was laid across beaded fabric. There was even a copy of The Pfister Hotel’s history book tucked into the detail spread. Those little touches tell us a couple cares about the story they’re building.

Meanwhile, Dylan was across the hall in suspenders and a bow tie, getting buttoned into his jacket with help from a groomsman. His side was quieter but just as focused. One of our favorite frames from the morning is Dylan standing alone against a white brick wall, completely locked in. That kind of quiet confidence translates beautifully on camera.

First Look Against White Brick

Instead of the grand staircase (which is gorgeous, for the record), Karlyn and Dylan chose a white brick wall near the hotel for their first look. Bold choice. It paid off. The simplicity of that backdrop let us focus entirely on their reactions. Karlyn walked up behind him, tapped his shoulder, and the second he turned around his whole face changed. From there, the two of them were in their own world. Holding hands, laughing, pulling each other close.

A small photo charm hung from the stems of Karlyn’s bouquet. When she showed it to Dylan, that moment was real and raw. As photographers, we live for details like that. They carry meaning well beyond the frame.

Portraits with Golden Hour and a Great Wedding Party

The bridal party was large, loud, and exactly the kind of crew that makes group photos fun instead of tedious. Black dresses and black tuxes all around gave us a sharp, cohesive look against the greenery at a nearby park. That color photo of the full group cheering while Karlyn and Dylan kiss in the center? Pure chaos in the best possible way.

After the party shots, we pulled Karlyn and Dylan away for golden-hour portraits. October light in Milwaukee can be spectacular when it cooperates. This evening it absolutely did. Low sun filtered through trees and caught Karlyn’s cathedral veil mid-drift. Those backlit frames with the veil floating across the entire sidewalk are some of our favorites from any downtown Milwaukee wedding.

If you’re considering The Pfister for your own celebration, know this: the streets around the hotel offer incredible variety for portraits. You never need to drive anywhere.

The Imperial Ballroom Ceremony and Reception

Walking into the Imperial Ballroom never gets old. Ornate ceiling panels, massive chandeliers, gold accents in every direction. Karlyn and Dylan stood in front of a tall window framed by draped fabric. Natural light poured in behind them and gave the ceremony a warm, almost cinematic quality. Their bridal party lined up on either side. Karlyn was grinning ear to ear through the entire exchange of vows, and that energy filled the room.

Reception-wise, the momentum never dropped. Karlyn and Dylan leaned into personal touches everywhere: a vintage telephone guest book, bar dice, cribbage boards, custom playing cards. A mirror displayed the seating chart with wax seals. These are the kinds of details that tell us a couple put real thought into the guest experience. We always make sure to document them thoroughly.

Late-Night Balcony Frames

Later in the evening, we stole the couple away for a few frames on the ballroom’s upper balcony. One shot is pulled in close with the warm amber glow of the reception behind them. Another is shot wide, capturing the full scale of the ballroom ceiling with the two of them small on the balcony below. That contrast is something we love about working as a Pfister Hotel wedding photographer. Grand architecture lets you go big. A strong connection between two people holds up in a tight crop too.
