Kaylyn & Joshua: Backyard Fall Wedding Photos in Janesville
Golden light pouring through tall grass, a lace dress catching the September breeze, and a little boy grinning between his parents. Kaylyn and Joshua didn’t need a grand venue to make their day feel extraordinary. They chose to get married at a family home in Janesville, surrounded by the people and the property they love most. These backyard fall wedding photos tell the story of a couple who knew exactly what mattered to them.
Lace, Wildflowers, and Getting Ready Outside
Kaylyn’s Grace Loves Lace dress was stunning. Long sleeves, open back, and this incredible texture that caught every bit of light we pointed at it. Her mom helped her into it right there on the property, surrounded by trees and late-summer wildflowers. No bridal suite, no hotel room. Just the two of them in the open air, and honestly, it was one of the most beautiful getting-ready moments we’ve photographed.
Joshua’s navy suit with a floral tie was the perfect complement. The invitation suite, the shoes lined up in the grass, the rings nestled in goldenrod blooms. Every detail felt intentional without feeling fussy. If you’re considering an intimate backyard wedding, take note: lean into the setting and let the property do the decorating for you.
A Ceremony Under the Trees
Dark wooden benches lined up on the lawn, a canopy of trees overhead, and prosecco waiting for guests as they arrived. That “Sip and Be Seated” sign set the tone immediately. This wasn’t a formal affair. It was warm, relaxed, and completely them.
Kaylyn came down that aisle beaming, and the ceremony had this quiet, grounded energy that we absolutely loved shooting. We stayed close during the vows because that’s where the real expressions live. The way Joshua looked at her, the way the officiant kept things personal. Those are the frames that matter most in a gallery like this.
The Golden Hour We Dream About
After the ceremony, we took the wedding party into the tree line for some group portraits. The groomsmen in their matching navy suits and floral ties, the bridesmaids in soft separates from Revelry. Then the whole group just erupted, laughing and goofing around while Kaylyn and Joshua kissed in the middle of it all. That energy is impossible to manufacture, and it made for some of our favorite frames of the night.
From there, we pulled Kaylyn and Joshua away for couples portraits. The property had these gorgeous wild areas with goldenrod, grasses taller than our shoulders, and this incredible amber light cutting through the trees. Kaylyn kicked off her heels and carried them barefoot through the field. We shot wide to take in the scale of that light, then pulled in tight for the quiet, close moments between them. This is the kind of autumn backyard wedding photography that keeps us excited about what we do.
Family First, Always
One thing that set this day apart was how central their son was to everything. He wasn’t just present. He was part of the story. Some of our most-loved images from this gallery are the family portraits near the rock garden and waterfall on the property. Their little guy on Joshua’s shoulders, all three of them laughing together, that mischievous grin he gave the camera. Those moments tell you everything about who this family is.
These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work. No timeline stress, no production. Just a family enjoying their day and letting us capture what was already happening.
Taco Trucks, S’mores, and String Lights
The reception was pure fun. El Grito Taqueria pulled up in a vintage truck to feed everyone tacos, and a handmade s’mores bar gave guests four different flavor combinations to try. Wooden crate table numbers, wildflower centerpieces, a card box wrapped in kraft paper. Every piece was thoughtful and DIY without trying too hard.
As the sun went down, string lights came on inside a workshop space on the property. Kaylyn and Joshua had their first dance there, surrounded by family, and it was one of those quiet, beautiful moments where you can hear every breath. That shift from golden outdoor portraits to intimate nighttime celebration is something we live for. The night ended with one more kiss outside under the stars, and we were right there to catch it.
This beautiful day was made possible by an incredible team of vendors:

What makes a backyard wedding great for photography?
Backyard weddings give us something no traditional venue can: a setting that already means something to you. Familiar gardens, family trees, and personal details create a backdrop that feels authentic. Couples are also more relaxed at home, and that comfort translates directly into more natural, beautiful photos.
How do you handle lighting for an outdoor fall wedding?
Fall light in Wisconsin is some of the best we work with all year. The sun sits lower in the sky, which gives us that rich golden glow for longer stretches of the afternoon. We plan portrait timing around golden hour and use the natural surroundings, like tall grasses and tree lines, to shape the light beautifully.
We’re planning a wedding in the Madison area. How can we see more of your work?
Congratulations! We love working in the Madison area. For that reason, we encourage you to view our wedding photography portfolio. It showcases a wide range of celebrations, and we would be happy to share complete galleries that are relevant to your specific plans.
