Chloe & Kyle’s Botanical Winter Wedding in Cascade, Iowa

Golden hour hit those Iowa fields like a match, and Chloe and Kyle were right in the middle of it, laughing, wrapped in a handmade daisy-print blanket, completely in their own world. As a Cascade Iowa wedding photographer, we get to shoot in some beautiful corners of the state. But this day stopped us in our tracks. The light was unreal, the florals were lush and layered, and these two gave us the kind of energy that makes every frame feel effortless.

Getting Ready with Heart

The morning was full of personal details, the kind that tell you a couple really thought about the people they love. Kyle had custom engraved cufflinks. His dad helped him into his jacket, and we caught that quiet pride on his face without either of them noticing. On Chloe’s side, her mom buttoned up her dress while holding back tears. Then Chloe handed her a framed “I Got It From My Mama” print. That room went from calm to emotional in about two seconds, and we were right there for it.

The bouquet from Studio Bloom deserves its own mention. Eucalyptus, garden roses in blush and burgundy, ranunculus, deep red accents. It had this wild, overgrown quality that felt alive against Chloe’s lace gown. That bouquet carried the botanical theme harder than any other single detail.

The Ceremony at St. Matthias

St. Matthias Catholic Parish in Cascade is the kind of church that makes you look up. Vaulted Gothic ceilings, stained glass on both sides, warm wood wainscoting. The pews were packed. We shot wide from the balcony to show the scale of it, because that light pouring through those windows deserved the full frame. If you’re planning a St. Matthias Cascade IA wedding, the architecture does so much of the heavy lifting. All we had to do was frame it.

Golden Hour in the Iowa Fields

After the ceremony, we drove out to an open stretch of farmland just outside town. The sun was dropping fast, and everything turned amber. Tall dried grasses, a gravel road disappearing into rolling hills, a barn in the distance. This is the kind of landscape that makes Eastern Iowa portrait sessions something special. No manicured garden could compete.

Chloe’s bridesmaids wore soft blush dresses layered with denim jackets. Against that warm golden backdrop, the whole crew looked incredible. The groomsmen were loose and laughing. One of our favorite shots is the full wedding party in the field at sunset. Everybody leaning in, nobody posed. That is the energy we chase.

Then it was just Chloe and Kyle. She threw on a crocheted daisy blanket over her shoulders, and they walked a gravel path while the last light wrapped around them. He helped her gather her train. She leaned into his chest. We pulled in tight for those moments because they didn’t need context. The emotion was right there on their faces. Being a Cascade Iowa wedding photographer means having access to golden hour fields like these, and honestly, they never get old.

The Reception at Cascade Legion Event Hall

The Cascade Legion Event Hall was completely transformed. String lights draped across the ceiling, lush greenery cascaded down the head table, and each place setting had a botanical rose plate with a laser-cut wooden name card. Chloe and Kyle clearly sweated the details, and it showed. The cupcake display alone had us taking way more detail shots than usual.

Their first dance was under a massive hanging greenery installation. The purple uplighting gave the whole room this moody, romantic glow. That shift from soft golden hour warmth to late-night dance floor energy is something we live for. Guests packed the floor, and the couple never stopped smiling. That’s a celebration done right.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cascade, Iowa Weddings

What makes a winter botanical wedding great for photos?

The contrast is everything. Lush greenery, rich burgundy, and soft blush florals pop against the muted tones of a late autumn Iowa landscape. The golden hour light during cooler months sits lower in the sky. That gives portraits a warm, cinematic quality we love working with.

Can you photograph weddings with a church ceremony and a separate reception venue?

Absolutely. Many of the weddings we photograph in Eastern Iowa involve a ceremony at a church like St. Matthias followed by a reception at a nearby hall. We build a timeline that accounts for travel, portraits, and plenty of breathing room so couples never feel rushed.

We’re planning a wedding in Eastern Iowa. How can we see more of your work?

Congratulations! We love working throughout Eastern Iowa. For that reason, we encourage you to view our wedding photography portfolio. It showcases a wide range of celebrations, and we would be happy to share complete galleries that are relevant to your specific plans.
