Sandy Vows and Golden Light: A Beachfront Wedding at El Dorado Royale
Warm sand under bare feet, the sound of waves rolling in just behind the ceremony arch, and a crowd of people who flew across borders to be there. That’s what this El Dorado Royale beachfront wedding felt like from behind our cameras. Lindsay and Devin brought their closest people to the Riviera Maya for a celebration that was relaxed, emotional, and genuinely fun from start to finish. The kind of day where nobody checked the time and nobody wanted it to end.
Getting Ready in the Tropics
The morning had this calm, slow energy that destination weddings do so well. Lindsay got ready in her resort suite with tropical plants framing the window light, and we loved the way it fell across her lace top as she put on her earrings. Her bouquet was a gorgeous mix of succulents, blue delphinium, and white dahlias. It had real texture and weight, and it photographed beautifully against the greenery outside.
Meanwhile, Devin was across the resort with his guys, rolling up his sleeves, sharing a bottle of Caperdonich scotch, and laughing hard enough that we could hear them down the hall. Those candid getting-ready moments are always some of our favorites. There’s no posing. Just people being themselves before the big moment hits.
A Ceremony on the Sand
The ceremony setup was stunning. White chairs arranged right on the beach, a circular floral arch made of grapevine and white blooms, and the Caribbean stretching out behind it all. The resort’s team nailed every detail, right down to the marquee “LOVE” letters glowing in the sand. If you’re considering a beachfront wedding in the Riviera Maya, this is the kind of backdrop that does most of the work for you.
Lindsay came down the aisle grinning, and Devin was trying to hold it together. Their officiant kept things personal and light, and you could hear the waves underneath every word. From a photography standpoint, we shot wide to showcase the full scene (ocean, arch, crowd) and then pulled in tight for the vow exchange. That contrast between the epic backdrop and the intimate close-ups is something we always chase at beach ceremonies.
Golden Hour Along the Coast
After the group photo (everyone was cheering and it was chaos in the best way), we pulled Lindsay and Devin away for portraits. The light at El Dorado Royale during golden hour is absolutely ridiculous. Warm, soft, and coming in low over the jungle canopy behind the resort. That’s the kind of light we dream about.
Their two-piece bridal look (a lace crop top and fitted skirt) was perfect for the setting. It moved beautifully in the breeze and caught the light in a way that made every frame feel effortless. Devin’s tan linen suit matched the whole vibe. These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work. No stiff poses. Just two people walking the shoreline barefoot, laughing, and leaning into each other.
One of our favorite spots was a rooftop overlooking the jungle. Not the most glamorous location on paper (there were AC units up there), but the sky was doing something incredible and the scale of them standing against all that open space gave us some of the strongest images of the day. Sometimes the best portraits happen in the least expected places.
A Beach Reception Worth Staying Up For
The reception happened right on the sand as the sun went down. Dinner was beachside with the last of the daylight fading behind the palms, and the resort set up a cigar bar and a full s’mores station. Details like that set the tone for what turned into a really great party. By the time the dance floor opened up, shoes were off, drinks were flowing, and nobody was holding back.
Lindsay was the heart of that dance floor. Arms up, singing along, pulling people in. That shift from barefoot beach vows to a full-on late-night party is something we live for as photographers. The energy was contagious, and we stayed right in the middle of it. Looking back, this El Dorado Royale beachfront wedding reminded us why destination celebrations are so special. When people travel that far, they show up fully present, and it comes through in every single frame.

What are the best photo locations at El Dorado Royale?
The beachfront is the obvious standout for ceremonies and golden hour portraits with the Caribbean as your backdrop. Beyond the sand, the resort has lush tropical gardens, stone archways, colorful mosaic walls, and rooftop vantage points that give you a completely different look. The variety means we can create a diverse gallery without ever leaving the property.
How do you handle bright midday sun at a beach wedding?
Bright tropical sun is part of the deal with a Riviera Maya beach wedding, and we plan for it. For portraits, we schedule time during golden hour when the light is warm and soft. During midday ceremonies, we use angles and positioning to minimize harsh shadows and keep everyone looking natural. The result is images that feel true to the day without that washed-out look.
We’re planning a destination wedding in Mexico. How can we see more of your work?
Congratulations! We love traveling for weddings and would be honored to be part of your celebration. For that reason, we encourage you to view our wedding photography portfolio. It showcases a wide range of celebrations, and we would be happy to share complete galleries that are relevant to your specific plans.
