Elisa & Jake’s Light Blue and Sage Wedding at Blackhawk Country Club

Elisa’s bridesmaids saw her in her dress and immediately started crying. Her mom was buttoning the back of her gown with the steadiest hands. Then two seconds later she was pressing her forehead against Elisa’s, completely overcome. As a Blackhawk Country Club photographer, we’ve seen plenty of getting-ready moments, but this one set the tone for the entire day. Everything that followed carried that same warmth: quiet, personal, full of people who genuinely adore this couple.

A Rooftop First Look with the Capitol in the Background

The morning started in a downtown Madison hotel. We loved that Elisa and Jake got ready just a few floors apart. Jake’s details told us a lot about him right away: personalized face masks for every groomsman (a very 2020 touch), mustache-print socks, and a monogrammed flask set in a polished wooden box. The guy has good taste, and his navy suit was sharp.

Meanwhile, Elisa’s room was all soft light and white roses with hints of blue delphinium. Her dress hung on the balcony with the Wisconsin State Capitol framed right behind it. That shot practically composed itself. From there, we moved into the first look on the rooftop terrace. The Capitol dome filled the entire background. Elisa walked out, Jake turned around, and the city just fell away for them. Those balcony portraits gave us wide, cinematic framing that we rarely get in Madison.

The Wedding Party and a Very Honest Ring Bearer

After the first look, we gathered the full wedding party downtown for group photos. Top image: the entire crew surrounding Elisa and Jake while they kissed, arms in the air, pure chaos in the best way. Bottom image: everyone in matching masks, lined up under the trees. Light blue bridesmaids’ dresses next to the groomsmen’s navy suits looked incredible together. Honestly, the light blue and sage palette photographed even better than we expected. Those cool tones against green summer foliage gave every frame a painterly quality.

Then it was off to Blackhawk Country Club for the ceremony. The outdoor setup overlooked the golf course, with a copper arch draped in white florals and greenery anchoring the scene. One of our favorite details? The ring bearer carried a sign that read “They didn’t trust ME with the Rings.” His expression sold it completely. Elisa came down the path on her dad’s arm. The look between them was everything. He was grinning, she was glowing, and we got both.

Wind, Veil, and a Ceremony That Felt Alive

Here’s the thing about an outdoor summer ceremony on a hilltop: the wind does whatever it wants. For Elisa’s cathedral-length veil, that turned out to be a gift. During the vows, it caught and billowed behind her. We shot it all in black and white because the drama was already there. The moment the groom lifted her veil, she was smiling through it, completely unfazed. Then the kiss. The bridesmaids were cheering. This is the kind of Blackhawk Country Club wedding photography that reminds us why we love what we do.

If you’re considering an outdoor ceremony here, know that the elevated setting gives you sky, trees, and open horizon in every direction. For portraits, that’s gold. The rolling fairways, mature oaks, and hydrangea gardens offer variety without ever leaving the property.

Golden Hour on the Fairways

After the ceremony, we pulled Elisa and Jake away for portraits. The light was perfect. Late summer golden hour on a golf course is a photographer’s dream. Long shadows, warm color, and wide open space to let a couple just be themselves. Jake dipped Elisa on the fairway. The tree-lined corridor behind them stretched into a soft blur. Her bouquet of white garden roses, eucalyptus, and blue delphinium popped against the navy suit in every close-up.

One of our favorite frames from the entire day is a detail shot: his hands on the lace back of her dress, wildflowers out of focus in the background. No faces, no posing. Just a quiet, intimate moment between two people who forgot we were there. That’s when we do our best work.

Reception Details and a Sunset Silhouette

The reception was set up under a tent on the club’s patio. Every detail reflected who Elisa and Jake are. Paper flower centerpieces, a hand-lettered “In Loving Memory” sign, wooden fans for guests in the summer heat, and a welcome sign with botanical illustrations. Their cake was a two-tier beauty with a diamond pattern and a silhouette topper. The table settings were elegant without being fussy, which matched the whole vibe of the day.

And then the sky put on a show. Purple, coral, gold layered across the horizon, and we grabbed the couple for one final shot. Foreheads together, completely silhouetted against a summer sunset that looked almost unreal. It’s the kind of image that needs no color correction and no cropping. The day gave it to us, and we just pressed the shutter. If you’re planning a Madison country club wedding, take a look at our wedding photography portfolio for a wider range of celebrations.

Frequently Asked Questions about Blackhawk Country Club Weddings

What are the best photo locations at Blackhawk Country Club?

The golf course fairways are incredible for portraits, especially during golden hour when the light stretches across the rolling hills. The copper ceremony arch area overlooks the course with sky and trees in every direction. For detail work, the tented patio and garden areas provide variety without leaving the property. As a Blackhawk Country Club photographer, we can honestly say the grounds offer more range than most venues in the Madison area.

Can you have an outdoor ceremony at Blackhawk Country Club?

Yes, and it’s stunning. The ceremony site sits on an elevated lawn overlooking the golf course, with mature trees framing the view. Couples typically set up an arch or arbor at the front, and guests sit on white chairs facing the open landscape. The hilltop location means wind can be a factor, but honestly, that makes for incredible veil and dress movement in photos.
