A Joyful Concourse Hotel Summer Wedding: Pink Peonies, Seersucker & the Capitol at Golden Hour
A seersucker suit with a pink bow tie. That’s what told us this Concourse Hotel summer wedding was going to have personality. These two had already said their vows in Denver, so the pressure was off and the fun was fully on. They came back to Madison to throw a celebration for family and friends, and from the first detail shot to the last dance, the whole day felt like a party that just happened to be beautifully dressed.
Getting Ready at the Concourse
Their hotel suite set the tone right away. A beaded white gown hanging against a textured wall. Navy leather loafers on a warm amber carpet. Sparkly block heels. A lush pink bouquet full of roses and orchids. Everything had this relaxed, elegant energy that made our job easy. Soft, warm light filled the room, and we leaned into it for every flat lay and getting-ready frame.
One of our favorite moments was the bride laughing while her friend zipped her into her dress. On the other side of the suite, the groom was grinning as his buddy helped him into that seersucker jacket. No nerves, no rush. Just two people who were already married and genuinely excited to celebrate. That energy is a photographer’s dream because it shows up in every single frame.
A First Look Full of Laughter
Their first look happened in a bright, open lounge area inside the hotel. Big windows. Sheer curtains filtering the light. He stood with his back turned, and the moment she tapped his shoulder, he spun around and his whole face lit up. Then they kissed, then they laughed, and honestly, the whole sequence gave us a range of emotion that most first looks only hint at. These two were completely at ease, and that is when we do our best work.
Garden Portraits Under the Willows
After the first look, we headed to a nearby garden for portraits. Lush greenery, willow trees, wildflowers, an iron arbor covered in vines. Overcast skies gave us soft, even light with no harsh shadows, which is ideal for the kind of romantic portraits we love to create. His seersucker suit against all that green was incredible. Her beaded gown caught the light beautifully every time she moved.
If you’re planning a summer wedding at the Concourse Hotel in Madison, know that you’re minutes away from some truly gorgeous outdoor spots. Nearby gardens gave us variety without a long drive, and the couple got to enjoy a quiet walk together before the reception kicked off. From there, we moved to a boardwalk surrounded by tall grasses and wildflowers. Open sky and natural texture created a completely different feel, which is exactly what we look for when building a gallery with range.
Downtown Madison and the Capitol at Golden Hour
As evening rolled in, we brought the couple downtown for a few more portraits with the Wisconsin State Capitol in the background. Golden hour hit perfectly. Warm light washed over the dome, the brick buildings, the quiet side streets. He had swapped his jacket for suspenders by then, and the look was effortlessly cool. She was twirling on the street in front of the Capitol, and we shot wide to capture the full scope of that moment.
This is the kind of Madison summer wedding photography we live for. When you pair that architecture with genuine joy, the images almost take themselves. Almost.
Reception at The Governor’s Club
Inside the Concourse, the reception space had a warm, classic elegance. Orchid centerpieces on white linens. A dessert table loaded with cupcakes and chocolate cake. Candlelight and soft wall sconces gave the room a golden glow that we loved working in. We pulled in close for the first dance, and the way they looked at each other told the whole story without a single word.
That shift from garden light to ballroom warmth is something we always look forward to in our wedding photography. Different light, different mood, different chapter of the same day. All night long, the band kept the energy high and every song pulled more people onto the floor. It was the perfect way to end a celebration that never felt like it was trying too hard. It just felt like love, surrounded by the people who matter most.

What are the best photo locations near The Madison Concourse Hotel?
The Concourse sits right on the Capitol Square, so we have immediate access to some of Madison’s most iconic backdrops. At golden hour, the Capitol building is stunning for portraits. Beyond downtown, lush gardens and nature areas are a short drive away, giving us variety without eating into your timeline.
How do you photograph a reception-only celebration?
Our approach stays the same whether we’re covering a full ceremony day or a reception celebration. Details, portraits, candid moments, and the energy of your guests all get the same attention and storytelling focus. The result is a gallery that feels complete and captures the joy of the day.
