Madison Couples Portrait Photography: A Spring Session at the Arboretum
Some couples show up to a session a little nervous, a little stiff. Not these two. From the very first frame, they were laughing and leaning into each other. That energy is what makes Madison couples portrait photography so rewarding for us. The UW Arboretum gave us the perfect backdrop to let it all unfold.
Dry Grass, Bare Oaks, and the Best Kind of Light
Early spring at the Arboretum has a look that surprises people. The grass is golden and dry. The oaks are still bare. Light cuts through without anything filtering it. We love shooting in this window because the tones are warm, earthy, and full of texture. No lush green canopy needed.
These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work. They wandered through the meadow and cracked each other up. They lay down in the grass without a second thought. We pulled in close for the quiet moments and shot wide when the landscape called for it. The Arboretum’s open fields and winding trails gave us variety without rushing.
If you’re considering UW Arboretum couples photos, here’s our advice: trust the setting and show up as yourselves. The location does a lot of the heavy lifting. Our job is to catch the real stuff between the poses. The glance right before the laugh. The hands finding each other without thinking. That’s the kind of work you’ll find in our couples portfolio.
When is the best time of year for couples photos at the UW Arboretum?
Every season offers something different. Early spring gives you golden grass and bare trees with beautiful open light. Fall brings peak color along the trails. We’ve shot here in every season and always come away with something we love.
