A Boho Micro Wedding at The Hauge Log Church in Blue Mounds

Not every couple needs a big guest list to fill a room with feeling. These two showed up with a handful of their favorite people, a wildflower bouquet that practically glowed, and the kind of easy, genuine connection that made our job feel effortless. As micro wedding photographers Madison couples trust for exactly this kind of day, we can tell you: small weddings aren’t lesser weddings. They’re distilled down to the stuff that actually matters.

Whitewashed Walls and Worn Wood Floors

The Hauge Log Church doesn’t need a single decoration. Whitewashed plaster walls, dark timber beams overhead, a simple wooden altar with a turned-spindle railing. That’s it. Light comes in through a small window above the pulpit. It wraps everything in this soft, warm glow. We barely had to think about our settings. The church did the work for us.

The ceremony itself was quiet and unhurried. Just a few rows of people who clearly loved this couple, an officiant reading words that meant something, and two people grinning through their vows. One of our favorite frames is the ring exchange, shot tight on their hands against weathered wood. If you’re considering a Hauge Log Church wedding, know this: the intimacy of the space forces everyone to be fully present. It’s beautiful.

Champagne Under the Trees

After the ceremony, everyone gathered outside under old trees for champagne. There was no DJ announcement, no formal transition. Someone popped a bottle of Chandon, glasses appeared, and the laughter started. The groom kept his arm around the bride the entire time. Their family leaned in close. We shot it all from a few steps back. Those are the frames that age the best: real people, real joy, no posing.

This is the kind of boho micro wedding inspiration that reminds us why we love small celebrations. No timeline pressure. No cocktail hour shuffle. Just a couple and their people enjoying a fall afternoon in the Wisconsin countryside. That relaxed energy is honestly when we do our best work.

Golden Fields and a Tree Swing

The land around the church is wide open rolling prairie. Golden grasses and wildflowers stretch in every direction. Once the toasting wound down, we wandered into those fields for portraits. The bride’s vintage lace dress with its sheer crochet neckline caught late afternoon light perfectly. Her bouquet, loaded with ranunculus, dahlias, and roses in deep plum and burnt orange, popped against all that muted gold.

Then they found a rope swing hanging from one of the big oaks. The bride kicked off, dress billowing, laughing so hard she almost lost a shoe. The groom stood behind her with pure adoration on his face. We shot it wide to capture the whole scene: her mid-swing, him watching, the hills rolling out behind them. A photographer’s dream, honestly.

As the light softened, they settled onto a colorful quilt in the tall grass. Foreheads touching. Her hand on his cheek. The bouquet resting between them. No direction from us needed. They just knew how to be with each other, and all we had to do was stay close and keep shooting. If you’re a couple looking for micro wedding photographers Madison area who let the day breathe, this is exactly the experience we love to create.
