Janine & Anthony’s Rainy Day Romance at Jack’s Barn
It was raining. Not a light mist, not a passing shower. Steady, committed rain. And Janine and Anthony grabbed a clear umbrella, walked out onto the brick path, and laughed like it was the best thing that could have happened to them. Honestly, it might have been. The soft light, the wet stone, the way everything just glowed. This New Jersey wedding photography session at Jack’s Barn turned into one of those galleries we keep coming back to, months later, still finding frames that stop us.
Getting Ready at Scranton at Twenty Belvidere
The morning started at Scranton at Twenty Belvidere, a little inn about a mile from the barn with beautiful window light and all the room we needed to work. Janine’s lace gown hung in a doorway, and the details she’d chosen told us exactly what kind of day this would be. Embellished Steve Madden heels. Coco Chanel perfume. Jewel-toned blooms and their rings resting on a velvet dish beside the invitation suite. Every piece felt personal, not staged. Anthony’s blue suit with a floral tie had so much character, and we pulled in close on the texture of that fabric because it deserved more than a wide shot. These are the mornings that set the tone for everything that follows.
A First Look Full of Feeling
Their first look happened on a brick walkway with green trees on either side and the kind of soft, overcast light that makes skin look incredible. Anthony stood waiting. Janine came up behind him. The second he turned around, she covered her mouth and completely lost it. That reaction is why we always advocate for first looks. There’s no audience, no timeline pressure. Just two people seeing each other for the first time on the biggest day of their lives. We shot tight on their faces because that’s where the whole story lived in that moment. The quiet before the ceremony gave them space to breathe, and it gave us something real to capture.
Color, Laughter, and the Wedding Party
If you want to know the energy of this crew, picture Anthony cracking a joke against a vine-covered stone wall while every groomsman in a grey suit and coral tie completely falls apart. Meanwhile, the bridesmaids were holding their own in deep burgundy and wine-toned dresses, waving bold bouquets of dahlias, roses, and ranunculus in magenta, orange, and peach. The full group shot was pure chaos in the best way. Everyone leaned in, bouquets flying, laughter echoing through the misty afternoon air. We shot wide for that one because you need to see all of it to feel it.
A Candlelit Ceremony Inside the Barn
We have a thing for Jack’s Barn. Walking into that ceremony space reminded us why. A massive floral arch framed the window at the front of the room, overflowing with dahlias, roses, and trailing greenery in every shade of autumn. Chandeliers hung from exposed wood beams. String lights stretched across the ceiling. Candles and loose blooms lined the aisle on worn plank floors. It felt like stepping into another era, and the warm amber glow from the uplighting made the room feel almost alive.
Janine and Anthony exchanged vows surrounded by their closest people, and the light in that room gave us everything we needed. Warm chandeliers above, candlelight below, and two people completely locked in on each other. If you’re considering Jack’s Barn for your own wedding, know this: the ceremony space photographs beautifully no matter what the weather does outside. Our frames from this moment are some of our favorites from the entire year.
Portraits in the Rain and Under the Willows
After the ceremony, the rain had softened to a drizzle and the overcast sky was doing its thing. Even, gorgeous, no-shadow light in every direction. One of our favorite spots was beneath a weeping willow where long branches created a natural canopy around them. Anthony looked down at Janine with this quiet warmth, and she reached up to hold his arm. No direction from us. No posing required. Just two people being completely themselves.
From there, we moved back toward the barn entrance with its red chairs and the iconic “Jack’s Barn” sign glowing behind them. Wet brick, misty air, everything had this cinematic quality that you just cannot manufacture on a sunny day. Rain days like this are honestly why New Jersey wedding photography keeps pulling us back to this part of the country. The weather becomes part of the story instead of something you work around.
Reception Details and Dancing All Night
The reception space matched the ceremony in warmth and character. Long rustic wood tables held lush floral runners and dozens of bud vases, each brimming with individual stems in every warm tone imaginable. A chalkboard sign reading “Janine & Anthony, September 29, 2023” greeted guests at the entrance. Lights stretched across the ceiling while a cozy lounge corner with a teal armchair sat nestled beside the floral arch. Every corner felt curated but never fussy. That balance is hard to pull off, and their team nailed it.
The cake was a personal highlight for us. A three-tier semi-naked cake sat on a wooden table beside a rustic lantern, and tiny figurines of the couple’s dogs circled the base. That kind of detail tells you exactly who these two are. After dinner, Janine and Anthony shared a first dance beneath the chandeliers while guests gathered close. The dance floor filled fast and stayed packed all night. That shift from candlelit ceremony to late-night party energy is something we live for. What makes Jack’s Barn a great venue for wedding photography?
Jack’s Barn offers a one-of-a-kind setting with exposed wood beams, antique chandeliers, string lights, and wide plank floors. The indoor spaces photograph beautifully in any weather, and the surrounding grounds provide lush gardens, brick pathways, and a weeping willow for outdoor portraits.
What happens if it rains on our wedding day at Jack’s Barn?
Rain is genuinely an opportunity for stunning photos. Overcast skies produce soft, flattering light, and wet surfaces add beautiful reflections. We always bring clear umbrellas and love working with whatever the weather gives us. Some of our favorite portraits come from rainy days.
