Small but Mighty: Boho Baby Boy Session

Two big brothers perched on a rattan chair, holding their brand new little guy like he was the most important thing in the world. That’s how this boho baby boy session started, and honestly, it set the tone for everything that followed. We photographed this family at our Garver Feed Mill studio in Madison, and every frame felt easy.

Calm Studio, Happy Baby

We keep our studio warm on purpose. Not just the temperature (though we crank that up for newborns), but the whole feel of the space. Soft light, neutral tones, no rush. Babies pick up on energy fast, and this little one stayed asleep through almost the entire session. That’s the magic of a controlled environment. We get to focus on the details: the tiny curled fingers, those impossibly small feet, the way a cream knit swaddle catches the light just right.

The boho setup for this session was one of our favorites. Natural wicker, dried florals, earthy textures layered together so the baby stayed the focal point. We pulled in tight for the close-ups because those are the images parents come back to years later. The overview shots are beautiful, but a sleeping newborn’s face filling the frame? That’s the one that ends up on the wall.

What we love most about newborn photography in Madison is how personal each session becomes. Every family brings a different energy. These parents were relaxed, their older boys were genuinely excited, and the whole session had this calm, joyful hum to it. That’s when we do our best work.
