The Sweetest Start: A Newborn Studio Portrait Session

Tiny fingers, a sleepy stretch, the softest light we could shape. This newborn studio portrait session reminded us why the quiet ones stay with us the longest. Everything about the morning felt unhurried. That’s exactly how we like it when a brand new baby is setting the pace.

Letting the Details Lead

Big sister stole the show early. She walked in ready to hold that baby, and the grin on her face was genuine, wide, and completely uncoachable. We pulled in close for that one. No amount of direction could have made it better.

From there, we moved into the setups we’d built for this family. Fall tones, warm textures, a little wicker basket lined with leaves. Every prop and wrap gets chosen ahead of time based on the baby and the parents’ style. Nothing generic, nothing off a shelf. Our newborn photography sessions are built from scratch each time. That matters more than people realize.

We photograph newborn sessions at our studio inside Garver Feed Mill in Madison. The space makes a real difference. We control the temperature, the lighting, every detail so the baby stays comfortable and the parents can relax. That calm energy shows up in the images. When everyone in the room is at ease, we do our best work.

The last setup was our favorite. Simple wooden planks, a cream wrap, and this baby curled up with both hands tucked under her chin. She looked like she’d been doing this forever. We shot it from two angles because we couldn’t pick a favorite. If you’re considering a newborn studio portrait session, this is the kind of moment we chase: unposed, quiet, and completely real.

Frequently Asked Questions about Newborn Sessions at Garver Feed Mill

When should I book a newborn session at your Garver Feed Mill studio?

We recommend booking during your second or third trimester so we can reserve your spot. Newborn sessions happen within the first two weeks after birth, when babies are sleepiest and curl up naturally. Once your baby arrives, we’ll confirm the exact date.

What makes a studio newborn session different from an in-home session?

In our Garver Feed Mill studio, we control lighting, temperature, and setup completely. That means a calmer environment for your baby and more creative options for props, wraps, and backdrops. See more of our work on our newborn and maternity page.
