Little One, Big Moment: Newborn Summer Studio Session
There’s a particular kind of quiet that only happens in the first couple weeks of a baby’s life. Not silence, exactly. More like the world holding its breath. This newborn summer studio session at our Garver Feed Mill space had that feeling from the moment this family walked in, and we leaned into every second of it.
Soft Light and Slower Mornings
Earthy tones were the thread through every setup here. Dried grasses, woven baskets, cream wraps, a little fox bonnet, knit bonnets with bear ears. Everything warm and grounded, nothing competing for attention. The light in our studio is something we never take for granted. We control all of it in this space, which means it stays soft and even whether we’re shooting the first frame or the fortieth. That consistency is a photographer’s best friend when you’re working with a sleeping newborn who could wake at any moment.
Babies run the show during our newborn photography sessions, and honestly, that’s how we want it. We block out generous windows for every booking so there’s real room for feeding, soothing, rocking, waiting. No clock ticking in the background. Just us following the baby’s rhythm until we land on those impossibly peaceful frames where everything lines up.
The detail shots are the ones that stop us. A curled hand resting against a cheek. Ten perfect toes barely bigger than a thumbnail. We pulled in close for these, shooting tight and intentional, because these are the things that change so fast you almost forget they were ever that small. Six months from now, you’ll scroll past one of these images and feel something catch in your chest. That’s why we shoot them the way we do.
Our studio inside Garver Feed Mill was built with newborns in mind. Warm room, stocked with props and wraps across a range of palettes, and set up so families can exhale the moment they step through the door. If you’re imagining your own newborn summer studio session here, this is what it actually looks like. Calm, intentional, and built entirely around your baby’s pace. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
What makes the Garver Feed Mill studio a good space for newborn photography?
Our studio gives us full control over lighting and temperature, which matters more than anything with a newborn. We keep the room warm and quiet so babies stay settled. We also have a full collection of wraps, bonnets, and props on hand to customize every setup.
