Wildflowers, Woods, and S’mores: Nineteen09 Wedding Photos
Some venues do a lot of the work for you. Nineteen09 is one of those places. Purple phlox blanketing the forest floor, light filtering through a full canopy, air that smells like greenery and damp earth. These Nineteen09 wedding photos are from a couple who built their entire day around that energy. Cat cufflinks, a s’mores bar instead of cake, wildflowers instead of an arch. Nothing about this day was borrowed from a template, and honestly, that’s when we do our best work.
Getting Ready with Good Energy (and a Cat)
The two of them got ready in separate corners of the venue, and the vibes could not have been more different. His side was all calm precision. A sharp navy suit, brown leather shoes, and cufflinks with tiny portraits of their cat on them. Her side? A beaded gown with leaf-pattern embroidery, a bridesmaid working the buttons, and the actual cat making a cameo for pre-ceremony snuggles. We knew within ten minutes this gallery was going to have personality.
Their first look happened on a quiet path deep in the trees, and we hung back to let it breathe. She tapped his shoulder. He turned. His face said everything words couldn’t. They held each other for a long time before either one spoke. That kind of stillness is rare on a wedding day. It set the tone for everything that followed, and we pulled in close for those frames because the emotion deserved to be felt up close.
A Ceremony in the Wildflowers
We have a thing for ceremony sites that don’t need decorating. The one at Nineteen09 is a photographer’s dream. Tall trees form a natural cathedral overhead. Pink and purple wildflowers grow waist-high on every side. No arch, no draping, no extra decor. Nature handled all of it, and Koru Ceremony guided them through vows that felt deeply personal right in the middle of that color.
The moment that got us was right after they were pronounced married. He kissed her hand. She threw her fist straight into the air. They walked back down the path grinning like kids, and the crowd lost it. That energy carried straight into portraits. The two of them wandered through the woods with us, completely relaxed, surrounded by blooming phlox and golden backlight. If you’re considering Nineteen09 for your own wedding, picture yourself standing in the middle of all that color with nowhere to be and nothing to rush toward. That’s what it felt like.
Golden Hour and an Outdoor Celebration
When the sun dropped low, we pulled them into a field of tall grass and just let the light do its thing. Warm, hazy, flaring behind them in a way that made every single frame glow. We shot wide to capture the scale of it, because that field stretching out behind two people in love is the kind of image you can feel. Her bouquet, packed with magenta ranunculus, peach garden roses, and white anemones, popped against all that gold like it was designed for this exact moment.
Back at the reception, long farm tables stretched across the patio under string lights. Briar Loft lined each one with bright floral arrangements that felt like an extension of the woods around them. A bar menu in a floral frame, hand-lettered place cards, jam jar favors. Every detail was personal without feeling fussy. Then came the s’mores bar. No cake. No cutting ceremony. Just the two of them assembling their first s’more together, laughing the whole time. That shift from a heartfelt ceremony in the wildflowers to roasting marshmallows under string lights is something we live for. These Nineteen09 wedding photos tell that story perfectly.
If you’re drawn to this kind of celebration, we’d love to chat. Take a look at our wedding photography portfolio for more from this venue and other Wisconsin spots we adore.

What makes Nineteen09 a great venue for wedding photos?
Nineteen09 in Cross Plains offers a unique mix of deep wooded ceremony space and a modern outdoor patio for receptions. The surrounding forest fills with wildflowers in late spring and early summer. That creates a naturally colorful backdrop that requires very little additional decor. The variety of settings gives us a wide range of looks within a short walk.
When is the best time of year for a woodland wedding in Cross Plains?
Late May through mid-June tends to be ideal. The canopy is full, the wildflowers are in peak bloom, and afternoon light filters through the trees beautifully. Early fall is another strong option if you prefer warmer tones in the foliage.
We’re planning a wedding in the Madison area. How can we see more of your work?
