Pure Joy in Every Frame: A Playful Family Session
Three kids, golden hour, and a field full of Queen Anne’s lace. That’s pretty much a photographer’s dream scenario. This playful family session at Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary in Schaumburg gave us all of it, plus a family that just genuinely likes being together. You can’t fake that energy, and honestly, you don’t want to.
Let Them Run
We always tell families the same thing: don’t worry about keeping the kids still. The best frames almost never come from everyone standing in a line and smiling at the camera. They come from the in-between moments. A toddler pulling ahead on the path. Siblings bumping into each other. Mom scooping everyone in close on a stone wall because someone scraped a knee or told a joke.
Spring Valley has these incredible stretches of wildflowers and native grasses that catch late light beautifully. We shot wide to let the landscape do its thing, then pulled in tight for the quieter moments. The contrast between the two is what gives a gallery depth. If you’re considering family photography in Schaumburg, this sanctuary is worth putting on your list.
There was one moment toward the end of the session where their oldest just started dancing in the wildflowers, completely lost in her own world. The sun was dropping behind the treeline and everything went warm and soft. We didn’t direct that. We just stayed quiet and let the shutter do the work. That kind of frame is why we love what we do.
Family photos are not about perfection. They’re about the messy, loud, tender reality of being a family. This crew reminded us of that in the best way.
Is Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary a good location for family photos?
It’s one of our favorite spots in the Schaumburg area. The wildflower meadows and wooded paths give you variety within a single session, and the light at golden hour is consistently gorgeous. Just plan for comfortable shoes since some of the paths are unpaved.
