Kristin & Cameron’s Shades of Blue Blackhawk Country Club Fall Wedding
Royal blue boutonnieres, navy table runners, cobalt bridesmaid dresses. Kristin and Cameron built their entire color story around shades of blue, and the result was one of the most cohesive days we’ve photographed. Their Blackhawk Country Club fall wedding moved from a sacred church ceremony to golden hour portraits on the club’s patio. Every frame in between felt intentional. These two were calm, connected, and genuinely happy. That is exactly when we do our best work.
Letters, Details, and a Really Good Trolley Ride
Before the ceremony, Kristin and Cameron read letters to each other from separate rooms. It’s one of those quiet moments we always protect in a timeline. The emotions are so real. Cameron’s dad adjusting his tie, a bridesmaid zipping up Kristin’s dress by window light, argyle socks laid out next to a bold blue tie. The details told us everything about these two: classic, intentional, a little bit playful.
The ceremony at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church had a weight to it that we loved. Quartessence played live strings in the sanctuary. The sound bounced off those high wood ceilings in a way that felt cinematic. Kristin came down the aisle on her dad’s arm, beaming. Bridesmaids in royal blue stood in a line. Organ pipes towered behind the musicians. All of it gave us rich, layered frames.
After the ceremony, everyone piled onto a classic trolley. The wedding party was already celebrating with drinks raised and laughter filling the aisle. Kristin and Cameron kissed right in the center of it all. That kind of unscripted energy is a photographer’s dream. Natural light poured through the arched windows, and we shot every second of it.
Portraits with Texture and Golden Light
For portraits, we explored the grounds around Washburn Observatory on the UW campus. Old sandstone walls, arched doorways, and brick ramps gave us so much texture. Kristin’s lace gown against the aged brick was striking. Soft afternoon light wrapped around both of them, and every angle worked. One of our favorite sequences came from a narrow walkway flanked by brick arches. Cameron pulled Kristin close, and the whole frame just clicked.
Then we headed to Blackhawk Country Club for sunset. The patio overlooking the golf course gave us a wide, open horizon. String lights and yellow flowers filled the foreground. Golden hour hit right on schedule. Kristin kicked off her shoes. Cameron tucked her in close. The sun dropped behind the trees in a warm amber glow. This is the kind of fall wedding photography Madison couples book us for, and the grounds delivered every bit of it.
A Reception Full of Blue and Warm Light
Inside the Blackhawk Country Club ballroom, the blue palette came together beautifully. Navy runners lined the tables. Tall centerpieces of white roses and hydrangeas anchored each one. A custom wooden sign read “Studer” with the wedding date. String lights draped across the ceiling gave the room a warm, intimate glow. If you’re considering this venue, know that the ballroom photographs even better than you’d expect once the lights go down and the candles come up.
The bar was beautifully curated with signature cocktails and labeled wine and beer selections. Kristin and Cameron cut their four-tier white cake with fresh flowers. Then the room shifted into celebration mode. Their first dance under the string lights was soft and unhurried. Foreheads touching, both of them smiling. Those are the frames we pulled in tight for, letting the bokeh of the lights tell the rest of the story. To view more celebrations like this one, check out our wedding photography portfolio.
This beautiful day was made possible by an incredible team of vendors:
What are the best photo spots at Blackhawk Country Club?
The patio overlooking the golf course is our top pick, especially at sunset. Rolling green fairways, string lights, and a wide-open sky give you incredible variety in a single location. The clubhouse interior also photographs well for reception details. Surrounding grounds offer shaded areas perfect for bridal party portraits.
How do you handle a wedding day with two different locations?
Multi-location days are something we plan for carefully. During the timeline consultation, we build in travel time. Then we identify exactly where portraits will happen at each stop. The goal is to keep the day relaxed, not rushed. Kristin and Cameron’s day included a church, a trolley ride, a campus portrait session, and the club. It all flowed smoothly.
We’re planning a wedding in the Madison area. How can we see more of your work?
Congratulations! We love working in the Madison area. For that reason, we encourage you to view our wedding photography portfolio. It showcases a wide range of celebrations, and we would be happy to share complete galleries that are relevant to your specific plans.
