Soft Florals and Sweet Details: A Vintage Floral Newborn Session
Dusty rose, warm cream, and tiny floral accents everywhere. This vintage floral newborn session was one of those mornings where every detail just clicked, and we couldn’t stop smiling behind the camera. From the very first setup, this baby girl was a dream.
Building a Setup Around Your Baby
Before we ever pick up a camera, we sit down and talk about color, texture, and mood. This family wanted something soft and vintage, and we pulled from our studio collection to build it. Muted creams, dusty florals, and delicate wraps layered together until it felt right. We photograph newborn sessions at our studio inside Garver Feed Mill in Madison, and the controlled light in that space gives us the freedom to shape every frame exactly the way we want it.
One of the things we love most about styled newborn work is how personal it becomes. The props, the palette, the little details: they all reflect something about the family sitting in the room. And then there are moments like this one, both moms leaning in to kiss their daughter, where the styling melts away and the real stuff takes over. That’s always the frame we’re chasing.
Our studio is stocked with wraps, bowls, blankets, and florals we’ve collected over years of shooting newborns. That collection means we can adjust on the fly. If a baby settles into one pose beautifully, we lean in. If she needs something different, we shift. The session moves at her pace, not ours. If you’re curious about what a session looks like from start to finish, take a look at our newborn and maternity photography page.
This last setup stopped us in our tracks. The lace bonnet, the floral basket liner, and the way she tucked her little hands under her chin. We pulled in close and let the details do the talking. Floral newborn portraits like these are the reason we keep building our prop collection. Every baby deserves a gallery that feels like it was made just for her.
What should I expect during a styled newborn session at your Garver Feed Mill studio?
We start with a conversation about the colors and mood you love, then build every setup from our in-studio collection of wraps, blankets, bowls, and florals. The studio stays warm and quiet, and your baby sets the pace for the entire session. Most newborn sessions last two to three hours, with plenty of time for feeding and soothing breaks.
When should I book my newborn session with Twig & Olive?
We recommend booking during your second or third trimester so we can reserve a spot on the calendar. Newborn sessions are best within the first two weeks after birth, when babies are sleepiest and most easy to pose. Reach out any time and we’ll get you on the schedule.
