Baby Photography Session: Garver Feed Mill Studio

Tiny curled fingers, the softest yawns, and a stillness that makes you hold your breath. This baby photography session at our Garver Feed Mill studio reminded us why we keep the space warm, quiet, and unhurried. When a newborn is this peaceful, our only job is to stay out of the way and let the light do the rest.

Soft Light, Simple Setups

We shoot newborn sessions with natural window light and a handful of carefully chosen props. That’s it. No complicated rigs, no harsh flashes. The light inside our Garver studio is consistent and gentle, which means we can focus entirely on the baby and not on chasing the sun across the room. For this session, we worked with earthy tones: cream, sage, mustard. The dried florals and woven baskets gave every frame a warm, organic quality that felt intentional without being overdone.

One of the things we love about studio newborn work is the control. Temperature stays comfortable. The pace is slow. If a baby needs to eat or be soothed, we pause and pick back up when they’re ready. No schedule pressure, no weather worries. Just calm. These are the sessions where we do some of our most detailed work, pulling in close on eyelashes and tiny toes, then stepping back to capture the full scene.

This little one slept through nearly every setup, which gave us the freedom to experiment with different wraps and angles. The triptych above is one of our favorite deliverables from this session. Three poses, three moods, one beautifully content baby. If you’re considering a newborn session in Madison, our studio is designed for exactly this kind of quiet, intentional work.

We always include a few black and white frames in every baby photography session. Something about stripping the color away puts all the attention on the details: the curve of a cheek, the way tiny hands tuck under a chin. Years from now, these are the images that stop you mid-scroll.
