The Good Stuff: A Madison Area Session at Schuster’s Farm
Zinnias as far as you could see, a kid who wanted to spin more than she wanted to stand still, and a dog who was absolutely in on the whole thing. This Madison area session at Schuster’s Farm in Deerfield was exactly the kind of evening we wish we could bottle up.
Flower Fields and Zero Chill
Schuster’s Farm sits just outside of Madison in Deerfield, and their zinnia fields in late summer are unreal. Rows and rows of color in every direction. We didn’t need to bring a single prop or backdrop, because the flowers did all the heavy lifting. All we had to do was follow the light and let this family do their thing.
And their thing? Pure, unfiltered energy. Their daughter wanted to spin, pick flowers, run between her parents, and then spin some more. We leaned all the way into it. The candid stuff, the mid-laugh stuff, the slightly blurry stuff that happens right before a perfect frame clicks into place. That is where the real photos live.
We always tell families to just be themselves during a session. Play, laugh, tickle, chase. Posed and stiff is not what we’re going for. The moment everyone stops thinking about the camera is the moment we start getting the frames that end up on walls. This family made that easy. They were relaxed from the first minute, and honestly, that is when we do our best work.
If you’re a family looking for a Madison area session that doesn’t feel stiff or staged, a spot like Schuster’s Farm is worth putting on your list. The color, the open space, and the golden light right before sunset give us everything we need to create something you’ll actually want hanging in your house. When is the best time of year for family photos at Schuster’s Farm?
Late summer is ideal. The zinnia fields are typically in full bloom from mid-July through September, and the color is incredible for photos. We recommend booking a session about an hour before sunset for the warmest, softest light.
