Mauve, Navy, and Golden Hour on the Green at Blackhawk Country Club
Mauve bridesmaids’ dresses, a navy suit jacket hanging on a wooden fence, and wildflowers catching late afternoon sun. That was the palette for this Blackhawk Country Club summer wedding, and from the very first detail shot we knew the whole day was going to feel effortlessly romantic. These two brought a quiet confidence to every moment, never rushing, never performing for the camera. They just showed up as themselves, and honestly, that is when we do our best work.
Getting Ready Under the Trees
The morning unfolded at a private home tucked into mature landscaping, all deep green shade and dappled light. The bride’s gown hung on a personalized hanger against a weathered fence, and close by, a navy suit jacket waited on a garden gate. Those quiet, separate details told a story before anyone had even gotten dressed. From there, one of our favorite moments happened when the bride’s mom stepped in to help with the finishing touches. That kind of tenderness doesn’t need direction. It just needs a photographer paying attention.
The groom’s mom helped him button his jacket in a shaded courtyard. Soft, even light, no harsh shadows, and genuine emotion between two people. It gave us warm, intimate frames without having to do a thing except be present.
An Outdoor Ceremony on the Golf Course
The ceremony took place on one of the greens at Blackhawk Country Club, wide open sky in every direction, rolling fairways fading toward Lake Mendota in the distance. A wooden arbor draped with white fabric and florals anchored the scene, and the wind kept everything moving just enough to feel alive. If you’re considering an outdoor Blackhawk Country Club summer wedding, picture this: blue sky, green grass stretching out behind you, and the kind of natural backdrop that doesn’t need a single extra thing.
The vows were personal and read from handwritten notes. The bride smiled the entire time, and the groom kept pushing his glasses up while trying to get through his words. Their first kiss had arms in the air and guests on their feet. We shot wide to get the sky, the arbor, and the celebration in a single frame. That moment deserved the full scene.
The Wedding Party and Portraits
This group brought so much energy. Bridesmaids wore mismatched mauve and blush tones, and the groomsmen balanced it out in navy and grey. They linked arms and practically ran toward the camera, laughing the whole way. Those candid, mid-motion shots always end up being the ones couples frame.
After the group photos, we pulled the couple away for portraits among the oak trees that line the course. The canopy filtered the light into something soft and golden, and the couple leaned into each other like nobody else was around. One close-up near a patch of black-eyed Susans stands out in our memory. The groom rested his forehead against hers while she held her bouquet of white peonies and lavender roses. We pulled in tight because that kind of stillness tells the whole story.
Tented Reception with Personal Touches
The reception was set under a tent overlooking the course, open sides catching the breeze and framing the view. Wine cork place card holders lined the escort table, each one a nod to the couple’s love of wine. Long tables ran the length of the space, dressed in greenery runners with white roses and eucalyptus. A four-tier buttercream cake topped with fresh blooms anchored the far end of the room. Every detail felt intentional without feeling overdone.
As the sun dropped behind the tree line, string lights came on inside the tent. The couple’s first dance happened under those warm little bulbs, and the groom held her close and barely moved. That shift from bright summer daylight to soft, glowing reception energy is something we live for. It changes how everything photographs, and it changes how the evening feels. This is the kind of Blackhawk Country Club wedding photography that reminds us why we love what we do.
This beautiful day was made possible by an incredible team of vendors:
What are the best photo locations at Blackhawk Country Club?
The golf course itself offers incredible variety. Rolling greens, mature oak trees with arching canopies, and distant views of Lake Mendota all make for stunning portraits. During golden hour, the light filters through the tree line and creates a warm, layered backdrop that we absolutely love. The tented reception areas and stone walls near the clubhouse also give you a range of looks within a short walk.
Can you have an outdoor ceremony at Blackhawk Country Club?
Yes. Ceremonies on the green are one of the biggest draws of this venue. The wide open lawn gives you a panoramic backdrop of sky, trees, and golf course without any visual clutter. A wooden arbor or floral arch is all you need to anchor the space, and the natural setting does the rest.
We’re planning a wedding in the Madison area. How can we see more of your work?
Congratulations! We love working in the Madison area. For that reason, we encourage you to view our wedding photography portfolio. It showcases a wide range of celebrations, and we would be happy to share complete galleries that are relevant to your specific plans.
