Together Is Our Favorite Place: A Fall Ranch Session
Warm light, open fields, and a family that couldn’t stop laughing. That’s what we walked into for this fall ranch session at Emily’s Ten Oaks Ranch just outside Madison. The ranch has this wide-open, golden feel that we knew would photograph beautifully, and these four made our job easy.
Let the Kids Lead
We tell every family the same thing before we start: just be yourselves. Play, chase, tickle, be loud. The best frames almost always come from the moments nobody planned. These kids took that to heart, and their parents were right there with them. No stiff posing, no forced smiles. Just connection.
We timed the session for golden hour, and the ranch delivered. The light came in low across the pasture and wrapped around everything it touched. That soft, directional glow is a photographer’s dream, and we leaned into it hard. We shot wide to pull in the landscape, then came in close for the quiet moments between the four of them.
There’s a reason we love ranch and farm locations for family sessions. The textures are real. Tall grass, worn fences, open sky. Nothing competes with the family in the frame. If you’re looking for a spot near Madison that feels relaxed and wide open, this ranch is worth considering.
That ease, when a family forgets we’re even there, is when we do our best work. This session reminded us exactly why.
Is Emily’s Ten Oaks Ranch a good location for family photos?
It’s one of our favorites near Madison. The open pastures and natural textures give us a gorgeous, relaxed backdrop, especially during golden hour. Families with young kids love having room to move around without feeling confined.
