Jacob & Brittany: A Classic Fall Wedding in New Berlin
There’s a specific quality to September light that makes everything feel a little more golden, a little more alive. Jacob and Brittany got every bit of it. As a New Berlin wedding photographer, we’ve shot our share of fall weddings in the Milwaukee suburbs, but these two brought an energy that had us excited from the first frame. A traditional ceremony at Holy Apostles Parish, golden hour on a quiet country path, and a reception at Aud Mar Banquet Hall that was equal parts elegant and fun. This was one of those days where every hour gave us something worth remembering.
Getting Ready with the People Who Matter Most
The morning split into two completely different worlds, and honestly, we loved bouncing between them. Jacob and his groomsmen had whiskey, dress shoes, and the kind of easy laughter that tells you these guys go way back. Across town, Brittany’s room was all warmth. Her mom, her bridesmaids, everyone close. The moment her mother wrapped her arms around her after the dress was zipped, the whole room got quiet. We pulled in tight for that one. You can’t stage a moment like that, and you only get one chance to catch it.
The detail shots told their own story before the day even started. Brittany’s lace gown hung from a garden trellis outside, catching that early morning glow. Pearl-studded heels, a delicate necklace laid in greenery, and then Jacob’s tux draped beneath an Ole Smoky Moonshine sign. Two people with great taste and a sense of humor. That combination always makes for a good gallery.
A Reverent Ceremony at Holy Apostles Parish
Holy Apostles Parish is the kind of space that stops you in your tracks. Stone walls, organ pipes, a towering crucifix with teal drapery. We shot wide when Brittany came down the aisle on her father’s arm because the scale of that church behind her deserved to be seen. Burgundy and blush roses filled her bouquet, and the whole sanctuary seemed to hold its breath. Jacob stood at the altar with his hands clasped, visibly steadying himself. That kind of raw anticipation is something we live for behind the lens.
The ceremony itself was traditional Catholic, layered with ritual and meaning. Candlelight bounced off the textured stone. Their first kiss drew cheers from the pews, and just like that, the energy shifted. The wedding party spilled outside into warm September air, and you could feel the day tipping from sacred to celebratory.
Wedding Party Portraits in Golden Hour Light
After the ceremony, we headed to a nearby park with the full crew. The bridesmaids wore deep red dresses that popped beautifully against the dark green pines, and the groomsmen matched Jacob’s classic black tux. One of our favorite frames from the entire day is everyone huddled in close with bouquets gathered at center while Jacob and Brittany snuck a kiss right in the middle. Group portraits don’t have to feel stiff, and this crew made that easy.
Then came the couples portraits, and this is where the afternoon really came alive. Late sun dropped low on a quiet country path and wrapped everything in gold. Jacob spun Brittany under his arm. They walked hand in hand down a gravel lane lined with overgrown hedges. He dipped her for a kiss while her dress fanned out behind them. If you’re planning a fall wedding in the Milwaukee suburbs, build in time for golden hour portraits. The light this time of year is short-lived and absolutely worth chasing. As a New Berlin wedding photographer, knowing exactly where to go for that glow is half the job.
An Aud Mar Banquet Hall Reception Full of Character
Aud Mar Banquet Hall brought the warmth, and Jacob and Brittany brought the personality. A custom “Strelka” barrel displayed their wedding date. Geometric terrariums held moss and candles. A neon-accented welcome sign greeted guests at the door, and eucalyptus runners stretched the length of every table between hand-lettered table numbers and flickering pillar candles. Every surface had intention behind it. We took our time documenting the details here because the couple clearly took their time designing them.
The first dance slowed everything down in the best way. Warm amber light from the hall’s exposed wood beams poured across the room as Jacob pulled Brittany close. Guests watched from candlelit tables, and for just a few minutes, the whole reception held still. Then the dance floor opened up and the energy flipped completely. That shift from intimate and polished to packed dance floor is something we absolutely love to photograph. It tells the full story of who a couple is, not just the quiet version or the wild version, but both.
This beautiful day was made possible by an incredible team of vendors:
What is your approach to photographing a traditional church ceremony?
We treat every church ceremony with deep respect. Our goal is to stay discreet while still capturing the emotional highlights. Churches often have specific rules about flash and positioning. We come prepared with the right lenses and low-light techniques to document the vows, reactions, and small moments that matter most.
How do you handle a wedding with a separate ceremony and reception venue?
Multi-location weddings are something we plan for well in advance. We work closely with each couple to build a realistic timeline. That includes travel between venues, portrait time at meaningful stops, and a smooth arrival at the reception. The result is a day that feels relaxed rather than rushed.
We’re planning a wedding in the Milwaukee area. How can we see more of your work?
Congratulations! We love working in New Berlin and the greater Milwaukee area. For that reason, we encourage you to view our wedding photography portfolio. It showcases a wide range of celebrations, and we would be happy to share complete galleries that are relevant to your specific plans.
