Peaceful Portraits: A Newborn Boy Winter Session

Ten tiny fingers curled tight, a rust-colored bonnet, and two parents who couldn’t stop staring. This newborn boy winter session at our Garver Feed Mill studio was the kind of morning that reminds us why we do this work.

Quiet Mornings, Real Moments

The thing about newborn sessions is that the baby runs the show. Feed, sleep, soothe, repeat. Our job is to work inside those rhythms, not fight them. So we keep the studio warm, the music low, and the pace unhurried. When mom and dad finally settled in with both kids, everything just clicked.

We pulled in close for the family frames because that’s where the connection lives. Dad’s forehead pressed to mom’s. Their toddler looking curious and a little proud. These aren’t poses we direct. They happen, and we catch them.

For the solo portraits, we leaned into warm neutrals and organic textures. Wicker baskets, dried florals, soft wraps. The studio gives us complete control over light and temperature, and that freedom is what lets us build out setups like these without rushing. If you’re imagining newborn photography in Madison, WI, this is exactly the kind of calm, detail-driven session we love.

One of our favorite frames from this gallery is the big brother moment. A toddler sitting next to his brand new sibling, holding a toy train, totally at ease. That image is real life, and it’s going to mean more to this family every single year.

We always shoot the details: the tiny feet, the curled fingers, the way a newborn tucks their knees up like they’re still figuring out all this space. Those close-ups fill in the story between the bigger portraits, and honestly, they’re some of our favorite images to deliver.
