Pure and Simple: A Newborn Session

Tiny fingers curled tight, a cream knit wrap, and the kind of quiet that only exists in a room with a sleeping baby. This newborn session at our Garver Feed Mill studio reminded us why we fell in love with this work in the first place. No elaborate setups. No fuss. Just a brand new little human and the softest light we could give them.

Less Is Everything

We kept things stripped back for this session, and that was absolutely intentional. Soft wraps, natural textures, and the warm, even light our studio is known for. No busy backdrops, no props fighting for attention. When you let the baby be the subject (and we mean truly the only subject), every detail gets its moment. The way the knit fabric falls. The curve of a tiny ear. Those are the frames that stop parents in their tracks five years from now.

We’ve been photographing babies for over two decades, and it still gets us. Every single time. The posed portraits matter, sure, but it’s the in-between shots that parents come back to again and again. A close-up of lips. Fingers wrapped around a thumb. The way a newborn instinctively curls into themselves like they’re still remembering what it felt like on the inside. We pulled in tight for those details because that’s where the real magic lives.

One thing we love about studio newborn photography in Madison is the control it gives us. Temperature, lighting, pace: the baby sets the schedule and we follow. Our Garver studio stays warm and stays quiet, and that calm energy shows up in every frame. If you’re looking for newborn portraits in the Madison area, this is exactly the kind of environment we create for your family.
