Max & Kayla: A Summer Wedding at Beech Ridge Barn in Scarborough
Some couples just radiate calm. Max and Kayla were like that from the moment we arrived at Beech Ridge Barn. Completely at ease, ready to soak in every second. Their summer wedding at Beech Ridge had the kind of unhurried energy that lets you breathe and really feel the day. Soft Maine light filtered through the trees. Pink peonies sat on every surface. Their dog Poppal made sure nobody took things too seriously. This is the kind of barn wedding in Scarborough that reminded us why we love traveling for the right couple.
Getting Ready with the Right People
Kayla got ready upstairs in the barn’s bridal suite with her bridesmaids. All of them wore blush pink robes and went barefoot on the grass for photos. The dresses hung on a rack in alternating shades of rose and champagne. Her bouquet of pink peonies, garden roses, and eucalyptus was one of those arrangements that stops you mid-step. One of our favorite frames from the morning was Kayla’s mom buttoning her dress, then leaning in with this quiet, tender expression. That kind of moment doesn’t last long. You either catch it or you don’t.
Max kept things relaxed on his side. Gray suit, pink bow tie, a groomsman pinning his boutonniere while they laughed about something we couldn’t hear. The groom’s details had a nice looseness to them. A leather belt draped over a potted plant. A signature cocktails sign in hand-lettered script. His crew was easy, and that energy carried through the whole day.
Blue Barn Doors and Vows Under the Arbor
Their first look happened in front of a weathered outbuilding with pale blue doors, tucked under a canopy of trees. Max stood waiting. Kayla walked up behind him. The second he turned around, his whole face changed. Those blue doors against the deep green backdrop gave us a frame that practically composed itself. A setting like that is a gift.
The ceremony was outdoors on the lawn, with guests seated on wooden benches. The wedding party gathered under a rustic arbor draped in white fabric and pink florals. Kayla and Max exchanged rings with huge smiles. The kiss was followed by a shower of dried rose petals as they walked back down the aisle. If you’re considering Beech Ridge for your own day, picture that: vows in open air, pine trees framing everything, petals catching the light.
Portraits, Pup Included
After the ceremony, the wedding party was an absolute blast. The bridesmaids in their mismatched dusty rose dresses squeezed in tight with bouquets everywhere. The groomsmen grabbed Max and lifted him up, all of them cracking up. Those group shots were loud and fun. The images reflect that energy perfectly.
Then Max’s dog Poppal showed up and stole the show. Max crouched down, and Poppal leaned right into him with this look that said, “I know exactly what today is.” Later we took the two of them out to the tall grass fields at the edge of the property. The light was hazy and golden. One shot of them lying in the wildflowers, looking straight up at us, is one of our favorites from the entire gallery. Beech Ridge Barn photography thrives in those in-between moments when the couple forgets the camera is there.
A Barn Reception with Personal Touches
The reception setup was something special. Rustic farm tables held wood slice chargers, eucalyptus runners, pink napkins, and calligraphed table names (named after trees, naturally). An open-air timber frame pavilion served as the cocktail area. Inside the barn, the dessert spread was stacked on a vintage wooden dresser. Cupcakes, cookies, pies, and mason jar favors lined up in rows. Hanging greenery draped across the windows behind it. Every detail felt intentional but never overdone.
One detail that made us smile: a framed illustration of Poppal sitting on the reception table. That dog was woven into the entire day. Perfect. The first dance happened inside the barn under exposed timber beams and warm Edison bulbs. It had this intimate glow that filled the room. Guests circled around them, and we shot wide to let the architecture frame the moment. As the night wound down, Polaroid prints of Max and Kayla hung from clothespins on a string. Those little instant photos, slightly imperfect and completely charming, sum up this summer barn wedding Maine style.
This beautiful day was made possible by an incredible team of vendors:
What makes Beech Ridge Barn a great venue for wedding photos?
The variety on the property is what sets it apart. You have the classic rustic barn with its blue doors, lush green woods, open fields, and a timber frame pavilion all in one location. That range lets us create a full gallery with completely different moods without ever leaving the grounds.
What is the best season for a Beech Ridge Barn wedding?
Summer is ideal. The fields are tall and green, the light stays soft well into the evening, and the outdoor ceremony space is at its best. That said, fall in southern Maine is stunning too, with the foliage adding rich color to every frame.
We’re planning a wedding in the Madison area. How can we see more of your work?
Congratulations! We love working in the Madison area. For that reason, we encourage you to view our wedding photography portfolio. It showcases a wide range of celebrations, and we would be happy to share complete galleries that are relevant to your specific plans.
