Fall Color and Easy Laughter: An Autumn Leaves Engagement Session at Token Creek

Some couples show up and you just know the gallery is going to be good. These two were loose, laughing, and completely themselves from the first frame. We planned this autumn leaves engagement session at Token Creek Park in DeForest to chase peak fall color, and the timing could not have been better. Every trail we walked down looked like a painting.

Token Creek at Peak Color

Timing a fall session is part skill, part luck. The canopy at Token Creek was on fire that evening, golds bleeding into deep orange and red. We shot wide through the tree line to let the color do the heavy lifting, then pulled in tight when these two started cracking each other up. That contrast between a huge, saturated landscape and two people completely lost in each other is something we always chase.

If you’re looking for fall engagement photos near Madison, Token Creek should be on your list. The park gives you open meadow, dense canopy, and everything in between, all within a short walk. We moved through three completely different backdrops without ever getting in a car. That variety is a photographer’s dream, and it keeps the session feeling natural instead of staged.

The light shifted as we moved toward golden hour, and everything went warm. We leaned into it. Backlit shots through the red branches, close-ups on the blanket, a few frames where the sun just barely caught the ring. These are the quiet moments that end up being favorites.
