A Summer Micro Wedding: Quiet Joy at Prevailing Winds Lodge
Some couples just radiate calm. From the moment we arrived at this Prevailing Winds Lodge wedding, everything felt unhurried and genuine. No big bridal party, no packed timeline. Just two people, their closest family, a beautiful dog, and a log cabin tucked into the rolling hills outside Blue Mounds. That kind of energy is rare, and it made for one of our favorite summer shoots.
Getting Ready Inside the Lodge
The lodge itself did a lot of the heavy lifting for us visually. Warm log walls, leather furniture, soft window light cutting across the rooms. The groom stood by a window adjusting his pink tie while golden light wrapped around him. Across the hall, the bride sat on a leather couch in her gown, quiet and still. She looked like she belonged in a painting. Her mom was right there, placing a necklace around her neck. The tenderness between them was impossible to miss. We stayed close and shot tight because those small gestures told the whole story.
Outside, we grabbed the details. Custom koozies with their initials, white ballet flats resting on a tree stump, a personalized hanger holding the dress against dark red log siding. The boutonniere was a single pink bloom on a mossy stump. Rings sat nestled in deep burgundy leaves. None of it was fussy. All of it was them.
A First Look Under the Trees
Their first look happened on a shaded path surrounded by green. She walked up behind him, tapped his shoulder, and his face just opened up. No big production, no staged reactions. Just two people happy to finally see each other. The kiss that followed was completely unscripted and full of real feeling. That’s the kind of moment we live for as photographers.
If you’re considering a Blue Mounds micro wedding, this is exactly the kind of setting that rewards a smaller guest list. There’s no rush. The couple gets to actually be present with each other, and we get to capture that presence. It’s a different pace, and honestly, it produces some of our most authentic work.
An Outdoor Ceremony in the Garden
The ceremony took place outside beneath a rustic iron arch with the garden stretching out behind them. Sunlight was pouring in, and our biggest challenge was staying out of the way of that gorgeous natural light. The officiant kept things personal and warm. During the ring exchange, we pulled in close to catch the hands, the expressions, the small tremble of emotion. Those details only show up when you’re right there. Their first kiss as a married couple happened under that arch, and we shot it from two angles. The backlit version turned out to be something special.
Champagne, Flowers, and One Very Good Dog
After the ceremony, these two toasted with champagne inside the lodge. Their hands holding those flutes, her ring catching the light, his pink tie peeking in from the edge of the frame. That’s the kind of detail shot we never get tired of making. From there, we headed outside to explore the grounds for portraits.
The bouquet alone deserved its own gallery. Eucalyptus, garden roses, dahlias, and peonies in shades of pink, cream, and coral. All held together loosely in a way that felt pulled straight from the landscape around us. Then their dog showed up and stole the show. Tongue out, tail wagging, completely unbothered by the camera. The couple dropped to their knees to pose with their pup. That image might be our favorite from the whole day. Dogs at weddings will never not make us happy.
Golden Hour in the Hills
As the afternoon light shifted, we walked the grounds one more time. The evergreens cast long shadows across the lawn. That warm, low-angle summer light turned everything golden. These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work. No posing prompts needed. Just a walk, a laugh, foreheads pressed together. The Prevailing Winds Lodge wedding photos from this last stretch have a softness that only happens when the couple forgets the camera is there.
This is the kind of summer micro wedding Wisconsin couples are drawn to, and we understand why. It doesn’t need to be big to feel meaningful. Sometimes the smallest celebrations carry the most weight. If you’re planning something intimate and want a photographer who thrives in that quieter space, take a look at our wedding photography portfolio. We’d love to hear about your plans.
This beautiful day was made possible by an incredible team of vendors:
What makes Prevailing Winds Lodge a great venue for a micro wedding?
Prevailing Winds Lodge sits on a sprawling, wooded property near Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. The rustic log cabin architecture gives you warm, textured getting-ready spaces with beautiful natural light, while the gardens and grounds offer endless backdrops for portraits and ceremonies. Because it’s a private property, it feels secluded and intimate, which is ideal for smaller guest lists.
How do you photograph a summer micro wedding differently than a larger celebration?
With a micro wedding, the timeline is often more relaxed, which means we can slow down and focus on the quiet, candid moments that might get lost at a bigger event. There’s more room for long portrait sessions, spontaneous detours, and real emotional beats between the couple. The result is a gallery that feels deeply personal.
