Candid and Connected: A Texas Spring Family Session

Golden hour light, three kids with zero interest in standing still, and parents who were completely game for all of it. This Texas spring family session at Cedar Hill State Park had the kind of energy we love walking into.

Let the Kids Lead

We always tell families the same thing: just be yourselves. Chase each other. Be ridiculous. The second everyone stops thinking about the camera is the second we start getting the real stuff. These five were naturals at it. The kids bounced between dandelion blowing contests and tackle hugs, and the parents just let it happen. That’s when we do our best work.

Cedar Hill State Park gave us a little bit of everything to work with. Rustic barns, weathered fences, open fields catching that last stretch of warm light. We shot wide to pull in the landscape and then tight to catch the quiet moments between all the chaos. One of our favorites from the evening was the whole family sprinting toward us, nobody looking at the lens, all of them laughing at something we’ll never know. That’s the photo.

If you’re considering family photography at Cedar Hill, spring is a gorgeous time for it. The light turns everything soft and gold, the grass is green, and the park has enough variety in backdrops that your gallery won’t look like the same wall repeated fifteen times. We timed this session for the last hour before sunset, and it paid off in every frame.

After two decades of photographing families, sessions like this one still remind us why we chose this work. No two families bring the same energy, and that is the whole point. Check out more of our family photography portfolio to see what we mean.
