Allison & Nolan’s Glamorous Fall Edgewater Hotel Wedding
Personalized flasks for the groomsmen, monogrammed cornhole bags, Wisconsin-shaped cookies, and a surprise appearance from Bucky Badger. Allison and Nolan didn’t just plan a wedding. They threw a party that felt like them from start to finish. Their Edgewater Hotel wedding stretched across multiple locations, mixed sacred tradition with big Badger energy, and gave us the kind of day we think about long after the editing is done.
Getting Ready at The Edgewater
The morning kicked off in two Edgewater suites with completely different vibes. Nolan’s guys were pouring bourbon into custom leather flasks and helping each other with cufflinks in front of a massive stone fireplace. Across the hall, Allison’s bridesmaids popped Korbel in matching floral robes and cheered as she stepped into her lace gown. Both rooms had that buzzing, can’t-sit-still energy, and we bounced between them to catch it all.
Details like these tell us a lot about a couple before we even start shooting portraits. Elegant invitations. Sparkling shoes. A simple white rose boutonniere. Everything pointed toward a day that would balance polish with personality, and that’s exactly what we got.
Blessed Sacrament and the Ceremony
From there the day moved to Blessed Sacrament Church, and the shift in energy was immediate. Brick exterior nestled under mature fall trees, warm wood inside, arched ceilings, and those incredible stained glass windows. Natural light poured through the glass in soft, saturated color. Honestly, it gave us everything we needed without a single artificial light source.
Allison came down the aisle looking completely calm, which is not something we see every day. Nolan was less composed, and that contrast made for some of our favorite frames. Their ceremony was reverent, traditional, and full of quiet emotional beats. If you’re considering Blessed Sacrament for your own ceremony, know that it photographs beautifully from every angle.
Trolley Ride, Capitol Portraits, and a Little Rain
After the ceremony, the entire wedding party piled onto a classic red trolley. That ride is one of our favorite things about multi-location Madison weddings. It resets the mood entirely. People grab drinks, laugh about the ceremony, and by the time they step off for portraits, they’re loose and having fun. Our group shot in front of the trolley with fall color in the background? Pure chaos in the best way.
Next stop: the Wisconsin State Capitol. As a Madison WI wedding photographer team, we never get tired of those granite steps and white columns. Allison’s veil caught the wind perfectly while they sat together on the stairs, bouquet between them, lace on stone. Those quiet in-between moments make a gallery feel complete.
Then the rain came. Most couples tense up when the sky opens, but Allison and Nolan grabbed a clear umbrella and walked the Edgewater pier like it was the plan all along. Rain on a lakeside pier with the hotel glowing behind them? Any photographer would dream of that light, and we leaned into it hard. Some of the strongest images from this day came from those ten rainy minutes.
The Reception and a Surprise Guest
Back at The Edgewater, the ballroom was glowing. Floating candles, tall floral centerpieces from Daffodil Parker, warm overhead lighting, and a lakeside terrace just outside the doors. It’s one of those rooms that looks elegant without trying too hard. If you’re planning an Edgewater Hotel wedding, the ballroom gives you flexibility for both a refined dinner and a packed dance floor.
Bloom Bakeshop delivered a simple two-tier cake with rosemary sprigs and a gold “A & N” topper. Nearby, the cookie display leaned full Wisconsin: red W’s, cheese wedges, and tiny champagne bottles stamped with their initials. Custom cornhole boards with a Bucky Badger decal sat waiting for guests. Every detail was intentional but never fussy.
Then Bucky showed up. Not a costume someone rented. The actual Bucky Badger, doing push-ups on the dance floor while the crowd lost its collective mind. Bluewater Kings Band kept the energy sky-high, and by the end of the night the room felt less like a formal reception and more like a homecoming after-party. That shift from polished ceremony to late-night Wisconsin spirit is something we live for.

What are the best photo locations for an Edgewater Hotel wedding?
The Edgewater gives us a fantastic range of backdrops all in one place. Its private pier over Lake Mendota is stunning for portraits, especially during golden hour or even in the rain with a great umbrella. Elegant interior spaces work beautifully for getting-ready shots, and the nearby Wisconsin State Capitol is just a short trolley ride away for timeless architectural portraits.
How do you handle a wedding with a separate ceremony and reception venue?
Multi-location days are something we plan for carefully. Building comfortable travel time between venues like Blessed Sacrament Church and The Edgewater ensures nobody feels rushed. A trolley or party bus between stops also creates fun, candid moments we love to capture. The key is a smart timeline, and we work with every couple to build one that flows naturally.
We’re planning a wedding in the Madison area. How can we see more of your work?
Congratulations! We love working in the Madison area. For that reason, we encourage you to view our wedding photography portfolio. It showcases a wide range of celebrations, and we would be happy to share complete galleries that are relevant to your specific plans.
