A Rainy Fall Wedding at Blackhawk Country Club

Rain was falling steadily when we pulled up to Blackhawk Country Club. Honestly, it set the tone for one of our favorite autumn galleries. Victoria and Zachery never flinched. They chose to keep their ceremony outdoors, umbrellas and all, and that decision gave this Blackhawk Country Club fall wedding a moody, romantic quality that sunshine simply can’t replicate. From the deep burgundy florals to the brilliant red maples on the grounds, every element felt rich and intentional.

Details in the Drizzle

The details alone told us this was going to be a beautiful shoot. Prairie Flowers and Gifts put together bouquets loaded with coral roses, deep plum dahlias, silver brunia, and eucalyptus. Against the wet fallen leaves, those colors practically glowed. Victoria’s lace gown hung from a cedar branch. A grey suit rested on a weathered wooden surface. Rings sat tucked into greenery. All of it felt like fall distilled into small, quiet moments.

Getting ready had the best kind of energy. Victoria’s bridesmaids were in matching floral robes, laughing and fussing over the lace details on her dress. Across the way, the groomsmen helped Zachery straighten his jacket, then posed under a sprawling tree. One of our favorite things about this part of the day is how unguarded people are. Nobody’s performing yet. That’s when we get the real stuff.

An Outdoor Ceremony, Rain and All

Here’s the thing about a rainy day at Blackhawk Country Club: the grounds are gorgeous no matter what the sky is doing. White chairs lined the lawn. A wooden arbor draped in white fabric and burgundy florals waited at the end of the aisle. Scattered leaves made the whole setting feel like a painting. Then the rain picked up, guests opened their umbrellas, and suddenly the scene looked even better than we could have planned.

Victoria walked down the aisle with calm confidence. You could tell she was exactly where she wanted to be. The vows happened under a striped umbrella held by the officiant, and the first kiss got a huge cheer. If you’re considering Blackhawk for your own fall ceremony, know this: the outdoor space works beautifully even in imperfect weather. Mature trees and the rolling course create depth in every frame. We shot wide to capture all of it.

Portraits Under the Maples

After the ceremony, the rain eased just enough for portraits on the grounds. Soft, even light blanketed everything. That’s a photographer’s dream for skin tones and color accuracy. And the color on those trees? Unreal. Golden oaks lined the fairways, but a massive red maple stopped us in our tracks. Victoria and Zachery kissed beneath it while the canopy above them burned bright crimson. That single frame is probably our favorite from the entire day.

The wedding party was just as fun to work with. Bridesmaids in plum dresses held their autumn bouquets while laughing with the bride. The groomsmen were loose and goofy from the start. That relaxed energy always translates into better photos. These two and their people never needed direction. They just needed a little room to be themselves.

The Reception Shift

Moving indoors for the reception felt like exhaling. Blackhawk’s ballroom was warm and inviting, with personal details at every turn. A marquee sign spelling out “ZIEMEK” in glowing bulbs set the tone immediately. A semi-naked cake topped with pale roses sat near the head table. Mason jar favors labeled with Victoria and Zachery’s names lined a display nearby. Blackhawk’s catering team handled both dinner and the cake, keeping everything seamless.

Once the dancing started, these two came alive. String lights overhead gave us that warm amber glow we love working with. We pulled in tight to catch the expressions. Victoria was spinning and laughing. Zachery couldn’t stop grinning. Their guests packed the floor around them. That shift from a moody, rain-soaked ceremony to a packed dance floor is something we live for. It’s the full arc of a wedding day, and this Blackhawk Country Club fall wedding delivered every bit of it.

Frequently Asked Questions about Blackhawk Country Club Weddings

How does rain affect wedding photos at Blackhawk Country Club?

Rain actually works in your favor. The overcast sky creates soft, even light that’s incredibly flattering for portraits. It also makes the fall foliage look more saturated and vivid. Blackhawk’s grounds include covered areas and mature trees that offer natural shelter while still giving us a beautiful, moody backdrop.

Can you have an outdoor ceremony at Blackhawk Country Club in the fall?

Absolutely. The lawn ceremony space overlooks the golf course and is framed by old-growth trees that peak with color in mid-October. Even with rain, the outdoor setup is stunning. The club also has indoor options if the weather becomes severe, so you have flexibility built right in.
