Soft, Serene, and So Sweet: A Winter Newborn Session

Tiny fingers, a lace headband, and the kind of calm that only a sleeping newborn can bring to a room. This winter newborn session at our Garver Feed Mill studio was exactly the quiet, tender morning we love most about this work.

The Details That Disappear First

Here’s what we’ve learned after years of photographing newborns: the things parents forget fastest are the things they swear they’ll remember forever. How a baby curls into the crook of your arm. That weight against your chest. A sleepy stretch that lasts half a second. We photograph all of it because one day you’ll look at these images and feel it again.

For this session, we kept everything simple. Soft wraps, wicker baskets, muted tones, and a whole lot of patience. She set the pace, and honestly, that’s how every newborn session at our studio works. If she needed to eat, we paused. If she drifted off mid-pose, even better. No rushing, no forcing. Just warmth and quiet.

One of the things we love about shooting newborn portraits at Garver Feed Mill is how much control we have over the environment. Our studio stays warm, the light is exactly where we want it, and every prop and backdrop is ready before the family walks in. That matters when you’re working with a baby who is only a few weeks old. Parents get to relax, the baby stays comfortable, and we get the space to focus on small, fleeting details that make these galleries so meaningful.

That last setup with the sage green wrap and fresh greenery might be our favorite from the whole morning. Her skin looked so soft against that color, and she was completely out, perfectly still. We pulled in tight and let the details do the talking. This is the kind of frame that ends up on a wall.

Frequently Asked Questions about Newborn Sessions at Garver Feed Mill

When should I book a newborn session at your Garver Feed Mill studio?

We recommend booking during your second or third trimester so we can reserve your spot. Most newborn sessions happen within the first two weeks after birth, when babies are sleepiest and easiest to pose. Once the baby arrives, we’ll finalize the exact date together.

What should I expect during a newborn photography session with Twig & Olive?

The studio is warm and calm, and the baby leads the entire session. We allow plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and diaper changes. Most sessions last about two to three hours, and parents are welcome to be in as many or as few frames as they’d like. Reach out and we’ll walk you through everything.
