Real Life, Beautiful Light: Family Sunset Portrait Session

Golden hour in a wildflower field with a puppy, two little girls who couldn’t stop laughing, and parents who were completely in the moment. This family sunset portrait session at Korth Park in Lake Mills was one of those evenings where everything just clicked.

Let the Kids Lead

We always tell families the same thing: just be yourselves. Play, chase, tickle, be silly. The more natural the interaction, the better the photos turn out. Posed and stiff is never the goal, and this crew didn’t need to be told twice. Their black Lab puppy added a layer of pure chaos that we loved.

Korth Park gave us open meadows, purple wildflowers, and that soft Wisconsin summer light that wraps around everything it touches. We shot wide to capture the scale of the field and pulled in tight for the quieter moments between mom and her daughters. The contrast told the full story.

There was a moment when mom scooped up her youngest and they went nose to nose, both cracking up. Nobody asked them to do that. We just stayed ready. That kind of connection is what we aim for in every family session, and it’s honestly when we do our best work.

If you’re looking for a spot outside Madison for family photos, Korth Park is worth the short drive. The wildflower meadows feel endless at sunset, and there’s enough space for kids (and dogs) to roam while we capture it all. These are the kind of Wisconsin family photography sessions we live for.

Frequently Asked Questions about Family Sessions at Korth Park

When is the best time for a family session at Korth Park in Lake Mills?

We recommend booking about an hour before sunset during the summer months. That’s when the wildflower meadows at Korth Park really come alive with warm, golden light. The soft tones make for relaxed, natural portraits without harsh shadows.

Can we bring our dog to a family photo session?

Absolutely. Dogs are part of the family, and outdoor parks like Korth Park give them room to be themselves. We’ve found that pets actually help everyone relax, which leads to better photos. Just bring a leash and a few treats, and we’ll work the rest out together.
