The Heart of It All: Christmas Tree Farm Session
Three boys, two parents, and zero interest in standing still. That’s exactly how we like it. This Christmas tree farm session at Summers Christmas Tree Farm in Frederick was pure chaos in the best possible way, and the gallery is better for it.
Let Them Run
We tell every family the same thing before we start: just be yourselves. Chase each other. Be silly. The second people stop performing for the camera is the second we start getting the real stuff. This crew took that advice and sprinted with it (literally). Dad had the youngest up on his shoulders, the older two were racing through the rows, and Mom was somewhere in between laughing at all of it. We shot wide to catch the full scene, then pulled in tight for the quieter beats.
There’s a moment in every family session where the energy shifts. The kids burn off that initial excitement, the parents relax, and everything settles into something genuine. That’s when we do our best work. The light at Summers was golden and warm, filtering through the evergreens and catching every grin. We didn’t have to manufacture a single thing.
After two decades of photographing families, these sessions still remind us why we chose this work. No two families move the same way, react the same way, or love the same way. That variety is what keeps it fresh. If you’re considering a session at a tree farm or open field, know that the wide-open space gives kids room to breathe and gives us room to capture real connection instead of forced smiles. When is the best time for a Christmas tree farm session at Summers Farm?
Late afternoon works beautifully here. The golden hour light filters through the rows of evergreens and creates a warm, natural glow that we love working with. We typically recommend booking about an hour before sunset for the best conditions.
How do I book a family session with Twig & Olive Photography?
