That’s how this mother daughter session at Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve State Park started, and honestly, it never slowed down.
Sandy Trails and Pine-Filtered Light
Pumpkin Hill Creek is one of those Florida locations that surprises you. Wide sand trails cut through pine flatwoods and scrub brush, and the light filters down in a way that feels almost coastal. We shot wide on the trails to let the landscape do its thing, then pulled in close once these two really got going.
If you’re looking for a Jacksonville family session location that doesn’t look like every other park, this preserve is worth considering. The sand, the wildflowers, the tall grass along the edges. It gives us variety without ever changing locations.
We always tell families to just be themselves. Play, laugh, tickle, chase. This mom took that to heart. She had her daughter cracking up on the quilt, and we barely had to direct anything. That’s when we do our best work, when families forget we’re even there.
The last frames of the session were our favorites. Mom pulled her daughter in close, cheek to cheek, wildflowers everywhere around them. No prompt, no countdown. Just a quiet, real moment between the two of them. We have been photographing families for over two decades, and those unscripted beats still stop us in our tracks every single time.
