November Light: Late Fall Portrait Session at Token Creek
Their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel stole the show. But honestly, the whole afternoon had this quiet, easy energy that made our late fall portrait session at Token Creek Park one we kept thinking about long after we delivered the gallery. We’d photographed this couple’s wedding, and reconnecting with them in a completely different season felt like picking up right where we left off.
Bare Branches, Golden Fields, and a Very Good Dog
Token Creek in November has this stripped-back quality we love. The leaves are mostly gone. The tones go muted and earthy, and the late-afternoon light gets low and warm without anything blocking it. We leaned into that mood with every frame. No heavy posing, no rushing from spot to spot. Just the two of them (plus one very photogenic pup) moving through the trails and fields at their own pace.
That comfort level is something you can’t fake. It’s the reason we always tell our wedding couples we’d love to see them again. The trust is already built. They know how we work. They know we’re not going to put them in awkward poses, and the result is images that feel completely natural. These two were laughing, leaning into each other, letting the dog wander between their feet. We pulled in close for the intimate moments. Then we shot wide when the birch trees and open fields gave us a backdrop worth showing off.
If you’re considering a late fall portrait session in the DeForest area, Token Creek is worth a look. The park gives you forest paths, open meadows, and water all within a short walk. And that November light? Soft, golden, and generous. Check out more of our couples photography work to see what a session like this looks like.
When is the best time of year for couples photos at Token Creek Park?
Late fall is one of our favorites. The bare trees and muted tones create a moody, romantic backdrop, and the low November sun produces beautiful golden light. That said, Token Creek looks great in every season.
Can we bring our dog to a portrait session with Twig & Olive?
Absolutely. Dogs are welcome at outdoor sessions, and Token Creek is a great spot for it. Pets add personality and help couples relax in front of the camera. Just let us know when you reach out to book so we can plan around your four-legged friend.
