Dreaming in the Studio: Madison Newborn Photos

Wildflowers, warm light, and the tiniest little soul curled up in a basket. This Madison newborn photos session at our Garver Feed Mill studio had us slowing down with every single frame. Some sessions just have that energy where everything falls into place, and this was one of them.

Soft Light, Simple Setup, All Her

We built this session around textures. Dried florals, soft wraps, wicker, lace. The color palette leaned into sage greens and muted purples, and every prop was chosen to complement her skin tone without competing for attention. That’s the kind of detail we obsess over in studio work.

And then there are the parent images. Mom and dad leaning into each other, their baby tucked between them, completely still. We pulled in close for those. No wide establishing shots, no distractions. Just three people in a quiet moment that will never happen exactly this way again. Those frames are always the ones parents come back to.

One of the advantages of shooting newborn photography in our Madison, WI studio is the control. Temperature stays warm. Lighting stays consistent. The baby sets the schedule, not us. If she needs to eat, we pause. If she’s deep asleep, we keep moving through setups without disturbing her. There’s no rushing, no stress, no weather to work around.

The detail shots from this gallery are some of our favorites. Tiny feet. Little fingers curled under her chin. A lace bonnet that was almost too perfect. We always make room for those close-ups because they capture a scale that parents forget shockingly fast. In two months, these hands will look completely different.

Frequently Asked Questions about Newborn Sessions at Garver Feed Mill

When should I book a newborn session at your Garver Feed Mill studio?

We recommend booking during your second or third trimester so we can reserve a date within the first two weeks after your due date. Newborns are sleepiest and most flexible in those early days, which makes for a calmer session and more variety in poses and setups.

What should I expect during a newborn photography session with Twig & Olive?

Plan for about two to three hours. The baby leads the pace, so we build in time for feeding, soothing, and diaper changes. We handle all the props, wraps, and styling. Parents are welcome in the frame whenever they’d like, and we always encourage it. Just show up and let us take care of the rest.
