Adventures Together: A Snowy Winter Family Session
Fresh snow, a baby in a knit hat, and a golden doodle who absolutely stole the show. This snowy winter family session at Token Creek Park had the kind of energy we love: relaxed, playful, and completely themselves.
Let the Snow Do the Work
Winter sessions at Token Creek are something else. The trail gets quiet. Snow softens every edge, and the light bounces around in this clean, even way that makes our job easier. We shot wide on the trails to let the landscape breathe, then pulled in tight when the family started goofing around.
That’s where the real stuff lives. Not in the perfectly posed frame (though we got those too), but in the moment right after. The laugh when baby grabs dad’s nose. The look between two people who are tired and happy and totally in love with their kid. We follow those moments. They’re the ones you’ll want to come back to in five years.
If you’re considering a snowy winter family session, Token Creek is worth the drive from Madison. The trails give you variety without feeling like a hike. Dried grass along the edges creates this warm contrast against all that white. We especially love bringing families here in January and February when the snow is fresh and the park is practically empty.
The close-up portraits reminded us why we always push for a few quiet minutes with the littlest family members. Babies change so fast. That tiny face, those round cheeks, the way they look up with zero agenda. We want you to have that, exactly as it was. Check out more of our work on our family photography portfolio.
Is Token Creek Park a good location for winter family photos?
It’s one of our favorites for winter sessions. The snow-covered trails are beautiful, and the park is quiet on weekday mornings. The mix of open fields and tree-lined paths gives us plenty of variety within a short walk. Bundle up in layers and plan for about 45 minutes so everyone stays comfortable.
