Snow Day with the Pup: Snowy Winter Maternity Session
Fresh snow has a way of slowing everything down. The air gets quieter, the light softens, and there’s this stillness that makes a snowy winter maternity session feel almost cinematic. That’s exactly what we walked into at Token Creek Park in DeForest, WI. These two and their very enthusiastic pup led the way through the powder.
Pets, Snow, and the Best Kind of Chaos
We always tell expecting parents to bring the dog. Not every photographer says that, but we mean it. Your pet is part of this chapter. Dogs in snow are the best version of themselves, and this one was no exception. Tail going nonstop, nose in every drift, completely unbothered by the camera. That energy kept everyone loose and laughing.
The light that afternoon was doing something special. Late winter sun sitting low, cutting through bare trees, throwing a warm golden wash over all that white. We shot wide to pull in the full landscape, then came in close for the quiet moments. Token Creek gave us both: open fields for drama and tree-lined paths for intimacy. If you’re looking for a winter location that doesn’t feel like every other park in Dane County, this one deserves a spot on your list.
There’s a moment in every session where the couple forgets we’re there. For these two, it happened toward the end. Golden hour fading, the dog finally tired out, sitting at their feet. They leaned into each other, and we just let the shutter go. That’s the frame. That’s always the frame. Check out more of our work on the maternity and newborn photography page.
Is Token Creek Park a good spot for winter maternity photos?
It really is. The park has open snowy fields, tree-lined paths, and enough variety for a full session. Winter light at Token Creek sits low and warm, perfect for soft, golden portraits.
Can I bring my dog to a maternity session with Twig & Olive?
Please do. We genuinely love working with pets, and dogs bring an energy that keeps things natural. Just make sure they’re comfortable outdoors in the weather. Reach out and let us know who’s coming.
