Studio Newborn Photography: Bear Hats & Big Sisters
That bear hat. We knew the second it came out of the bag that this studio newborn photography session was going to deliver. A brand new baby boy, two big sisters who could not wait to hold him, and a family so relaxed in front of the camera that we barely had to direct a thing. Sessions like this one at our Garver Feed Mill studio are exactly why we love what we do.
Siblings, Silly Faces, and the Good Stuff
Here’s the thing about sibling portraits with a newborn: you can’t script them. The gentle way an older sister cups a tiny head, the curious lean-in, the proud grin when they realize they’re holding a real baby. We watch for all of it, and we stay ready. Those fleeting looks are what families come back to years from now.
We pulled in tight for the family portrait and then went wider to let the studio’s brick wall fill the background. The contrast between those two frames gave us range in the gallery, and that’s something we always aim for. Classic, posed setups sit right alongside the candid chaos. Both matter.
And then there was this guy. Eyes closed, bear bonnet on, chin propped on his tiny hands like he was posing on purpose. We shot this one with soft, even light and a shallow depth of field to keep all the attention on that little face. Newborn portraits in our Garver studio let us control every variable: temperature, lighting, sound. The result is a calm session where babies sleep, parents breathe, and the best expressions show up on their own. If you’re thinking about newborn portraits in Madison, this is the kind of session you can expect.
What makes the Garver Feed Mill studio a good spot for newborn photography?
Our studio inside Garver Feed Mill gives us full control over lighting, temperature, and background setups, which means we can keep babies comfortable and asleep longer. The warm, quiet space is designed specifically for newborns and young families, so the session never feels rushed.
Can older siblings be part of a newborn session?
Absolutely. Some of our favorite images come from big brothers and sisters meeting the baby for the first time. We build in time for sibling portraits and let kids be themselves. The best moments happen when everyone is relaxed and having fun.
