Romantic Vintage Summer Wedding at Camp Dewan

A tweed vest, a newsboy cap, a lace gown hung against old barn doors, and a dog who insisted on supervising the whole thing. That’s how this day started. We knew immediately these Camp Dewan wedding photos were going to feel like something out of another era. Everything about this celebration leaned into a vintage, handmade sensibility, and the grounds in Burlington, WI gave us the perfect canvas to match it.

Details That Told the Story Before the Ceremony Even Started

The getting-ready time at Camp Dewan has this layered, textured quality that we genuinely love shooting. The barn where the bride got dressed had massive wooden doors and rough-hewn walls. Light filtered in just enough to make everything glow. Her lace gown hanging from a beam with baby’s breath tucked in the hanger looked like a painting. Meanwhile, the groom was outside with his guys, adjusting his cap while his groomsmen gave him a hard time about it.

Suspenders, brown leather shoes tucked among hostas, a bouquet of deep green and blush blooms. Every single detail was curated but not fussy. That’s a rare combination, and it made our job incredibly fun.

And then there was the dog. Their border collie was perched at the top of the barn staircase like a sentry, watching everything unfold below. One of our favorite shots from the morning is looking up through the wooden beams to find this pup staring right back at us. If you’re planning a wedding here and your dog is part of the family, bring them. Trust us on that one.

A Lakeside Ceremony with a Copper Hex Arch

The ceremony took place on the lawn beside the water. Camp Dewan’s landscape did all the heavy lifting. Trees framed the background. The pond reflected the late-afternoon sky. A copper hexagonal arch draped with greenery anchored the whole scene. It felt intimate even with a full crowd.

The couple had a wine-barrel blending ceremony with engraved bottles. There was this wonderful moment of quiet focus between them as they poured. That’s the kind of detail we pull in tight for. The wider shot can’t capture what their faces were doing.

After the vows, the energy shifted completely. The wedding party surrounded the couple, fists in the air, absolutely losing it while they kissed. Honestly, the reaction shots from this group were some of the loudest, most joyful frames we’ve captured in a long time. From there, everyone spilled out onto the wooded paths for portraits. The bridesmaids in their jewel-tone dresses against all that green foliage gave us a color palette we didn’t want to stop shooting.

Golden Hour, a Rowboat, and a Spiral Staircase

We stole these two away for portraits while the light was doing its best work. That golden hour session is what made these Camp Dewan wedding photos something special. There’s a canoe on the property, and we put them in it. Not paddling, just sitting together, her leaning into him with the water and trees going soft behind them. The light was warm and low, filtering through the branches. Every frame felt effortless. These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work.

Then we moved to the spiral staircase inside the barn. Shooting from above, looking straight down the wooden spiral with her lace train fanning out below? A photographer’s dream. The geometry of that staircase combined with the organic texture of her dress created something almost architectural. If you book Camp Dewan, do not skip this spot.

By the pond, he scooped her up and she laughed so hard she nearly lost a shoe. That kind of unscripted moment is worth more than any posed frame. The black-and-white conversions from the lakeside portraits have this timeless, film-like quality. They fit the vintage mood of the entire day perfectly.

Barn Reception, Donuts, and S’mores by the Fire

The reception inside the barn was dripping with character. Lace table runners, mismatched vintage china, wood-slice table numbers burned with calligraphy, and paper flowers mixed with real ones. Everything had a handmade warmth that felt genuine. The barn itself, with its exposed beams and string lights wrapped around the trusses, gave us soft ambient light. Every wide shot felt cozy. If you love the idea of a rustic summer celebration with real personality, this is what it looks like done right.

Instead of a traditional cake, there was an entire dessert spread. Stacked donuts on wood slabs. Trays of sweets carried out by the flower girl and ring bearer. A hand-lettered “Desserts” sign framed by a floral wreath. That whole setup was a visual treat for us, and for the guests it was even better. And yes, the border collie was stretched out on the barn floor by this point, completely exhausted from a full day of wedding duties. Honestly, same.

The night ended exactly how a Camp Dewan wedding should end: around a bonfire. The couple roasted marshmallows, ate s’mores, and kissed with sparks drifting up into the dark sky behind them. That shift from polished ceremony to late-night bonfire energy is something we live for. It tells you these two know how to celebrate.

Frequently Asked Questions about Camp Dewan Weddings

What are the best photo spots at Camp Dewan?

Camp Dewan has incredible variety for portraits. The lakeside area gives you open sky and water reflections that are gorgeous at golden hour. The wooded paths feel intimate and secluded, which is great for relaxed couple portraits. Inside the barn, the spiral staircase is a must for dramatic overhead shots, and the barn doors with their rustic wood texture are perfect for detail photos and bridal portraits.

Can we have a bonfire at Camp Dewan?

Yes, and we highly recommend it. The fire pit area is perfect for an end-of-night gathering with s’mores and drinks. It creates a warm, relaxed atmosphere that’s completely different from the ceremony and reception. Photographically, it’s stunning with firelight against the dark sky.
