A Literary Love Story: Mikhaela & Michael’s Ridge Hotel Wedding

Some weddings hit you the moment you walk in. Books lined every table, a harpist was already playing under a draped pergola, and the bridal bouquet was unlike anything we’d ever seen. Mikhaela and Michael’s Ridge Hotel wedding had personality layered into every single corner. Honestly, we knew within the first ten minutes that this gallery was going to be something special. Their literary-themed midsummer celebration in Lake Geneva carried a richness that went far beyond beautiful decor. It was the kind of day that reminded us why we love this work.

Color, Details, and a Harp

The getting-ready details stopped us in our tracks. A deep plum suit jacket hung against the hotel wall. Those jeweled Badgley Mischka heels caught every bit of available light. Then there was the bouquet. King protea, hot pink peonies, purple lisianthus, billy balls, astilbe. It looked like a painting someone ripped off a gallery wall and handed to a bride. We pulled in tight on that arrangement from every angle because it deserved it. A custom “Mrs. Schroeder” hanger draped over the veil finished the scene perfectly.

The outdoor ceremony unfolded under a wooden pergola wrapped in flowing pink and blush fabric. Guests settled into white chairs on the lawn while a harpist played. The ivy-covered backdrop gave the whole space a garden-novel feel. Mikhaela and Michael’s first kiss drew cheers from every row. That energy carried straight through the rest of the afternoon, and we were right there chasing it.

Portraits in the Summer Gardens

Portrait time was easily one of our favorite stretches of the day. The grounds at The Ridge gave us hydrangea beds, deep green lawns, and soft overcast light that made every color in that bouquet sing. We shot wide to take in the landscape, then moved in close when the moments got quiet. Mikhaela’s cathedral-length veil caught the breeze like it was on cue. Michael could not stop grinning at her. That kind of chemistry is something you cannot manufacture. It’s a photographer’s dream when it shows up this naturally.

Their ceremony recessional gave us the biggest, most genuine laugh we’ve caught in a long time. From there, we moved through the gardens for a mix of romantic and playful frames. The overhead shot of them lying among the flowers became an instant favorite for all of us. If you’re considering The Ridge for your own wedding, know that these grounds offer stunning backdrops without ever leaving the property. Mikhaela and Michael were completely themselves the entire time. That is when we do our best work.

A Reception Full of Story

Inside the reception space, the literary theme came fully alive. Table numbers were styled as book covers bearing Mikhaela and Michael’s names. Gold-framed mirrors held handwritten quotes. The invitation suite leaned into a romantic floral motif with protea illustrations. A stone fireplace anchored oversized “MRS & MR” letters, framed photos, and soft candlelight. Every surface told a piece of their story. We spent real time documenting each one because those details deserved more than a passing glance.

Lush centerpieces from Lilypots echoed the wild, colorful energy of the bridal bouquet. Purple uplighting transformed the ballroom as evening settled in. The chocolate drip cake topped with fresh lavender roses anchored the dessert display. Mikhaela and Michael cut into it with the kind of easy joy that defined their entire Ridge Hotel wedding. Their first dance closed the night exactly the way it started: full of laughter, warmth, and connection. That shift from styled details to pure celebration energy is something we live for.

Frequently Asked Questions about The Ridge Hotel Weddings

What makes The Ridge Hotel a great venue for wedding photography?

The Ridge Hotel offers a wonderful mix of modern interiors and expansive outdoor grounds. Manicured gardens, lush lawns, and wooded areas provide natural backdrops for portraits, while the hotel’s clean lines and stone accents add sophistication to indoor shots. That variety gives us a rich range of looks within a single venue.

How do you photograph a themed wedding like a literary celebration?

Themed weddings are some of our favorites. For a literary wedding, we pay close attention to the details that create that world: the custom invitations, book-inspired table numbers, meaningful quotes, and overall atmosphere. Those elements get woven into the detail shots, portraits, and candid moments so the final gallery feels like a complete story.
