Kala & Randy’s Summer Wedding at Fete in Wales, Wisconsin
Kala and Randy brought the kind of energy you can’t manufacture. From the moment we arrived at Fete, the laughter was loud, the hugs were real, and their daughter was stealing every scene she walked into. Their summer wedding at Fete had all the ingredients we love: golden Wisconsin light, wide open grounds, and a couple who never once stopped smiling at each other.
Getting Ready with Their Favorite People
The getting-ready energy on both sides of this wedding was something else. On Kala’s side, it was all about their daughters. Watching her kneel on the floor to help the littlest one into her tulle dress, then turn around and see her bridesmaids tearing up at her reveal? Those moments write themselves. The soft light filling Fete’s bridal suite gave us this warm, even glow that made every frame feel intimate without us having to fight for it.
Randy’s room was the opposite kind of beautiful. His groomsmen were loud, laughing, all hands on deck helping him into his jacket. There’s always one groomsman who takes the role way too seriously, and honestly, those are some of our favorite frames. The detail flat lay told a story too: custom socks with a photo print, polished shoes, and a suit jacket hanging against the white barn doors outside. If you’re considering Fete Wales for your wedding, know that the prep spaces photograph incredibly well on both sides.
An Outdoor Ceremony Full of Real Moments
The ceremony happened outside under a wooden arch draped in white fabric with a chandelier hanging from the center. It sounds like a lot, but against Fete’s deep green tree line it all just worked. The kids stole the show before the vows even started. Their son walked down the aisle holding a football, and their daughter carried a sign that read “Daddy, are you ready? Here comes Mommy!” The guests lost it. So did we.
Once Kala and Randy were face to face, everything quieted down. The vows were personal, the ring exchange was tender, and the first kiss got a roar from the crowd. One thing that stood out to us as photographers: the open sky behind the arch gave us gorgeous, even backlighting for the entire ceremony. No harsh shadows, no squinting. Just clean, beautiful light and two people completely locked in on each other.
Golden Hour on the Grounds
This is the part of the day where Fete really shows off. The venue has sprawling fields of tall grass, mature trees with dappled canopy light, and that iconic modern white barn in the background. After the ceremony, we took Kala and Randy out into the fields and let the golden hour do most of the heavy lifting. Randy kept kissing Kala’s hand, and she kept laughing at him. Zero direction needed. These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work.
Their daughter joined for a few frames and absolutely owned the camera. Running through the grass, grinning, holding a little stick like a wand. Meanwhile, the wedding party gathered for a group shot that turned into a full celebration, arms in the air, bouquets waving, everyone pressing in around the couple. That kind of energy can’t be posed. You just have to be ready for it.
Reception Details and the First Dance
Inside the barn, the reception space was warm and polished. Naked cake with eucalyptus and white roses. A gold “forever & always” cake topper catching window light. Rustic wooden card boxes and candle centerpieces on every table. The details were cohesive without being overdone, which made our job easy. A few close-up frames of the cake and florals, a wide shot of the tablescape, and the story told itself.
Then came the first dance, and it stopped the room. We shot it two ways: an overhead perspective that captured the empty dance floor surrounding them, and a tight frame that caught Randy holding Kala’s face in his hands. Both in black and white. That shift from bright outdoor summer wedding photography to moody reception lighting is something we live for. The contrast tells the full arc of the day.

What are the best photo locations at Fete in Wales?
Fete has incredible variety for wedding photography. The tall grass fields are perfect for golden hour portraits, the mature trees offer shaded canopy light, and the modern white barn creates a clean, striking backdrop. The balcony is also great for wide-angle shots with the building’s architecture and string lights in frame. If you’re planning an outdoor summer wedding in Wisconsin, Fete gives you options all day long.
How do you photograph an outdoor summer wedding when it’s hot?
Heat is part of summer weddings in Wisconsin, and we plan for it. During the ceremony, we position ourselves to work with the natural light rather than fight it. For portraits, we time our couple’s session around golden hour when the light is warm and flattering. Fete’s tree-lined areas also provide shade options if we need a break from direct sun.
We’re planning a wedding in the Milwaukee area. How can we see more of your work?
Congratulations! We love working in the Milwaukee area. For that reason, we encourage you to view our wedding photography portfolio. It showcases a wide range of celebrations, and we would be happy to share complete galleries that are relevant to your specific plans.
