New Baby, New Favorites: Summer Studio Newborn Session

Tiny fingers, a gold floral crown, and the kind of calm that only a sleeping newborn can bring to a room. This summer studio newborn session reminded us why we keep the thermostat high and the music low in our Garver Feed Mill space. Everything about it was unhurried, intentional, and just really lovely.

Soft Light, Simple Setups

We built every setup around this baby girl’s coloring and temperament. Warm creams, dried florals, and woven textures that let the focus stay exactly where it belongs. Our studio gives us full control over the light, and for newborns that matters more than anything else we do. No harsh window shifts, no guessing. Just soft, even, beautiful light from start to finish.

One thing we always tell parents: your baby runs this session. Not us, not the clock. If she needs to eat, we pause. If she falls asleep in someone’s arms, we shoot that moment instead of the one we planned. The best newborn portraits happen when nobody is rushing.

That vintage velvet chair with the green leaves? We pulled that setup together specifically for this family. Colors, textures, and props are never one-size-fits-all. We curate every detail so the gallery feels like it belongs to you.

And then she woke up. Wide-eyed, alert, completely unbothered by the camera. Those awake moments are gold. We pulled in close and let her personality fill the frame, because honestly, a two-week-old staring straight at the lens with that much composure is not something we take for granted.

If you’re considering newborn photography in Madison, our studio was designed with exactly this in mind. Warm, safe, stocked with wraps and props, and set up so families can relax from the moment they walk in. That’s when we do our best work.

When should I book a newborn session at your Garver Feed Mill studio?

We recommend booking during your second or third trimester so we can reserve a spot within the first two weeks after your baby arrives. That early window is ideal for sleepy, curled-up poses, but we’re flexible if life has other plans.

What should I expect during a newborn studio session with Twig & Olive?

Plan for about two to three hours. We keep the studio warm, move at your baby’s pace, and build in time for feeding and soothing. Props, wraps, and headbands are all provided. You just bring the baby and yourselves. Reach out any time to start planning.
